It's hilarious how total n00bs with 8 year old POS, or $399 emachines, or people on laptops are sitting here bashing windows 7. Windows 7 wasn't made for u dummies, it was made for 4 GB+ DDR3 ram, which only high end computers made the last few years have. Nobody here has any clue what they are talking about.

i switched to linux, last week? and thanks to some fine folks on glp even figured out how to make a dual boot.

like i said xp sucks ass. but i am forced into it for games. and until they completely phase out xp and its no longer supported by anything then i'll just quit using a computer. and develop a drinking problem to satiate my time.

it runs very good on 2 gigs right now i am on a mmsn-sli deluxe mother board with an amd 4000 chip 2 gig ddr800 and i ran vista beta with no problem an i am a gamer the only reason i did not buy a copy of 7 is i dont need to spend the money on it untill i build a new quad core

I got the same setup dude, except 1 gtx 470. Is your hard drive score a 5.9? I got 7.7-7.6 on every windows score but the hard drives holding me back lol.

WIN 7 64 Bit came on my laptop. I like it. It is way faster than XP3 and I like XP3, running it on the desktop.
Networking for multiple puters on one wireless router is as easy as installing software. We're running one wired, and two wireless.
While they see each other on the network, XP refuses to share with WIN7. I have Netgear.

Windows 7 is the ultimate RAM-muncher, consuming an average of 1 gig of RAM while relatively idle. What's it doing with all my RAM**? I could run XP of -300 megabytes of RAM

THats not a bad thing. The more RAM you feed it, the more it consumes. THerefore if you own a proper amount of ram (3-4gb+) you'll have an excellent smooth experience.

Yeah I plan on doing LFS next time. Arch is a good middle ground.

Microsoft doesn't really improve anything. They slap a shiny coat on their old product and call it "improved". Then they discontinue support for the older products that work fine and force MILLIONS of people to buy their new shite.

Thats patently false. While hardware capabilities grow, software capabilities need to grow in order to take advantage of the new hardware. Do you think they should just keep giving away service packs for xp forever?
