Anonymous Coward User ID: 979719 United States 06/05/2010 12:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well of course they are out to make money, but erasing windows 7 and installing xp makes absolutely no sense. Even if WIndows came out with the ultimate operating system, I would bet that there would still be a stubborn bunch of people that would still stick to XP. They don't even consider anything else. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 921109sometimes some may forget not everyone has a 100k salary and can afford to upgrade hard and software every few years just to please their masters. and for what a feature you could do on the old one? i switched to linux, last week? and thanks to some fine folks on glp even figured out how to make a dual boot. like i said xp sucks ass. but i am forced into it for games. and until they completely phase out xp and its no longer supported by anything then i'll just quit using a computer. and develop a drinking problem to satiate my time. |

Windows 7 wasn't made for u dummies, it was made for 4 GB+ DDR3 ram, which only high end computers made the last few years have. Nobody here has any clue what they are talking about. Quoting: AimUnit111Seriously. There doesn't seem to be any "upgrades". It's different in that it gives the perception of security (encryption and etc) however it has built in backdoors which render the security flawed and your encryption keys easily accessible to anyone who knows where to look... [link to publicintelligence.net] And there you have it. New windows for big brother to look through. Smile, you're on candid camera. Welcome to a brave new world. Well, ok, just a new world order. |

THerefore if you own a proper amount of ram (3-4gb+) you'll have an excellent smooth experience. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 938119 United States 06/05/2010 12:22 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I had previous used Ubuntu, and never quite "got" several things about linux. After setting up Arch linux (using the wonderful arch wiki beginners guide), I now feel like an expert and can compile programs and write shell scripts till the penguins come home. Quoting: MountainTuxFor those that don't want the headache of configuring Xorg and installing a window manager, you can google "Arch Bang". Currently testing the Mandriva final RC on my main machine, but I'm thinking of taking another run at Arch. Strangely enough, I find it a bit convoluted. Gentoo was my first u-bild, but for a REAL project, LFS (Linux From Scratch) is a blast, especially on older commodity hardware. Give it a whirl! Yeah I plan on doing LFS next time. Arch is a good middle ground. |
