Quoting: Anonymous Coward 982910But, having now watched the videos, you do understand that BP has a bit more complicity than you had originally outlined for us, right? i do agree according to the video, bp was pressuring the rig operators. however the rig operators didn't do their job and stop operation when there was a problem. no offense here with my next statement. if the employees operated the equipment wrong, whether or not under pressure, are they not liable for their actions? Yes the employer has to answer for their actions, true, but in this case the operators where, undeniably, transocean. who buy the was has been working their asses off to get a cap on their liability. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 982910 United States 06/05/2010 12:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | NOW back to the videos, they are very interesting and offer a first hand account. If you look up transocean's operating policy's, ANY employee can stop work on a rig at ANY time they think it is no longer safe. It is my opinion that when they found the rubber these employees should have killed the operation right then. I don't accept the whole "he told me to jump off the bridge" attitude. This is a very sad event and from the videos it seems that the transocean employees saw it coming. I wish they would have acted on their suspicions, could have possibly saved lives. Economy down here is almost done. So why would I fund them even more by buying their fuel products? Especially since, once they know things are really going to go badly, they will start moving funds off the books and go into bankruptyc protection to restructure and then move those funds back in and continue business as usually (possibly under a different brand name.) And that's how the story always goes... |

I have also asked friend and family not to gas up at any BP stations. Think the idea of them not being able to pay for this spill because they go broke is a bit ridiculous. Guilty as Hell User ID: 959927 United States 06/05/2010 01:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Transocean does have culpability Quoting: Anonymous Coward 982910The below applies to BP, Transocean, and Halliburton for starters. BP should be protested as a third line of defense. Quoting: The World Judges BP 959927The widespread course of action should be as follows: 1) Seize all bank accounts and liquid material assets. 2) Boycott all BP products, Suppliers, and Advertisers. 3) Protest through class-action lawsuits demanding compensation to be paid from seized funds. All funds that have been transfered to BP's partner corporations since April 20th will be siezed as well. As a matter of principle, Tony Hayward should be personally bankrupted as well. He can mooch off relatives for a while. |

This is a very sad event and from the videos it seems that the transocean employees saw it coming. I wish they would have acted on their suspicions, could have possibly saved lives. Of course you dont believe...Finger pointing, another sure sign you have an agenda here.. Look, I work construction and if I am working for a contractor, it is their responsibility AT ALL TIMES to make sure the job is going to plan, safety measures are in place and the CONTRACTOR is the party FULLY RESPONSIBLE... If I damage a house that I am working on, it is the contractor that is responsible and they will collect from me and in turn pay for the damages done.. BP hired transocean, which was responsible for th 2nd largest oil spill in history... Yes, TransOcean was the same company with a different name that was responsible for the 1979 IXTOC oil disaster... Again BP hired a company that had a history involving the 2nd worst oil distster ever... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 950567 United States 06/05/2010 01:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just talking about BP products. seems like you work there... Quoting: HEBGBThe bigger picture message I believe HEBGB is attempting to convey is: 1. the problem is systemic; it is NOT unique to BP. 2. BP and other oil companies would not be in operation and seeking to "drill, drill, drill" at any cost if not for CONSUMERS. And, on this level, HEBGB is correct. I will add the the gov is just as complicit. In the UK, there are strict laws governing oil companies who want to drill. For example, the majors must form a group working together and funding specialized oil spill response service providers. They have plans in place; they have equip in place; they have trained teams in place in strategic locations who are at the ready 24x7.....all funded by the oil companies. The oil companies are liable for all. Select employees of the majors must also go through spill and disaster training. In fact, someone in my household attended simulated disaster training at a *BP facility* in the UK regarding oil tainted water entering a nuke reactor facility. But I digress. In the UK, this preparedness and strict contingency plans are law, and it is COB for the majors. Two points here: 1. BP is knowledgeable in these operations because they have to be to conduct such operations in other countries. So the chaos going on regarding this clean-up (as well as safety measures) is completely unexplainable other than they are not forced. 2. The gov in any country controls regulations. Check with Congress for the reasons the US is so lax. But be very, very careful not to fall for the cry out for support of Cap and Trade. That bill has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with this issue. . |

I am not sure i fully understand your comment about the gas stations, or even believe it. as far as the supports go, there are quite a few. I do think mistakes were made, however its time to work on a solution to it ALL. not sit around and bitch about it. incorrect there is a filling station for employees at the texas city refinery (as '03). And there are BP filling stations in Austin and they were always a little cheaper than everyone else. Additional before BP bought Amoco out their premium was the only fuel that was not taken from a central vessel and then given additives to make it proprietary it came from the refinerary propriatary. Having knowledge of BP management practices it is a company that I do not support. Protesting is silly in my estimation as the failure here was in regulation by rep and dem and what I would just generally consider a corrupt government. To me you might as well protest Gulf for selling leaded fuel in the 70's.... |
