How many people here build their own computers?

I think FRYs has some bare-bones notebooks in their computer parts sections.

Yes, please updates as it all unfolds. The weather systems have been a help so far, but how long that lasts is anybody's guess.

I'm a gamer so yeah I build high performance boxes for myself and friends. Quad core 3.4 ghz overclocked to 3.7, 8 gigs ram, 285 evga video card, 160 gig 10000rpm raptor hd, 640 gb hard drive for media, 42 inch hd tv for monitor.

It is because I do that I am. ;)

I used to... you guys now call what I built "laptops".

I started building my own 20 years ago. Trouble is, I keep them going for so long that when I build a new one, everything has changed so much that it's like starting from scratch. I'm getting too old to learn everything new again.

My current box is from January 2005 & it's just about time to kick it to the curb and start again. Fans are worn out, & it's not worth upgrading for serial ATA drives. I also need more memory, but I hate to spend money on memory that will be worthless when I finally move to something more up-to-date.

Yeah... I used it to save a couple of my hard drives with bad clusters. But now most computers don't have floppy drives to boot to. I think Spin Right can be loaded on a bootable cd though.... I need to read up on it. It is the bomb!

I still remember the day I spent 200 bucks on a 487 math co-processor so I could finally run a CAD program.

Has any of you installed liquid cooling ?

How is it working for you ?

I havn't built one since back in the 90's and have been itching to do another one, but I am a little intimidated by the all the changes in technology and etc. If you can please share any helpful websites that you use for reference.

Watercooling rocks I have it in my box only the cpu and bridge. Hope to get a waterblock for my video card this year. Quiet a lot cooler and I can overclock my Cpu higher than ever.

I watercooled my two dual CPU Dell SC1425 rack servers.
The silence is amazing....as is the cooling.
