Anonymous Coward User ID: 854379 Canada 06/06/2010 12:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My neighbor just stopped by. Didn't stay long. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 861535She said "Did you see? They FIXED it!!" I said "Uh, no they didn't." She: "Yes they DID, they fixed it- it's on the NEWS!" Me: "No, they did not fix it." She: "Well, I think they DID. Me: "They didn't fix jack shit." She: "Yes they did." Me: "There's another leak bigger than this one." She: "I don't believe that, it's not on the NEWS." Me: "Sigh.." She: "Ok, whatever.." -- There ya go. This is what most people are thinking right now, it's fixed. Not fixed. I went through about the same conversation with my mother in law its pretty sad! How can anyone who sees the live feeds think this thing is anything but worse (let alone fixed). |
HEBGB User ID: 964530 United States 06/06/2010 12:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not sure what is going on here... BP Oil Spill footage from 6/5/10. The only leak is supposed to be on the top of the BOP where BP has the Top Cap. I had been watching the Rober 'BOA Deep C' all evening as it was on the sea floor and swimming in a cloud all evening. The description on the bottom of the screen said it was tasked with 'Dispersant Line Inspection' Quoting: TraderRobThen, it came across a broken pipe and a crater. The camera on this Rover is not high quality -- but you can clearly see a large plume in the distance. After a minute, the task changed to 'Original Plume Location inspection.' Shortly after -- the feed went dead... as of this writing it still sayd 'Oroginal Plume Location Inspection' but the screen is green! I recorded this -- watch it unfold! Can someone else try to enter the coordinates shown from this ROV? I tried and it will not show a picture. I am curious to see the location of this ROV when this footage was taken. I would also like to keep track of the coordinates shown on these ROVs on a map...... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 988760 United States 06/06/2010 12:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Are they going to cap the cap or cap another leak? Quoting: ? 994430You sure it's a cap? I saw it in the cage from the side, and in an over the top shot, it has the same fins and vents. I think this one iced up, or failed somehow which explains the increased flow out the bottom |

satellite User ID: 994430 United States 06/06/2010 12:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | And today's satellite image should be posted around 1-2 pm EDT. I think they take the shot at high noon-ish. has anyone been able to find a recent satelite pic of the sea in that area, so that we can see the extent of the oil spill .... or are they witholding that info as well? Quoting: satellite 994430Here's MODIS satellite from yesterday. Lots of clouds. [link to ge.ssec.wisc.edu] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 992782 United Kingdom 06/06/2010 12:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Although it sounds over the top, I'm starting to think maybe the only way to stop this is to fire off some explosives / small nuclear device deep underground besides the intact pipe to blow it shut with rubble, soil and the pipe being crushed from the explosive force. Worked in Russia anyway. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 988254Adm. Allen said on State of the Union this morning they were planning to replace the first cap with a more efficient one. This one looks like it has a lot more bells and whistles. |

Allen said on State of the Union this morning they were planning to replace the first cap with a more efficient one. Aaaand while doing so, the flow rate will increase by another 300%.. Don't worry, we will hide it by doubling the dispersant. We here at BP have the peoples best interest at heart while we act like we know what the fuck we are doing. Anonymous Coward User ID: 981411 United States 06/06/2010 12:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I really dont know what we are suppose to see or why this is pinned.. But to me its not evident at all that the sea surface floor is cracking. Not only would it make sense from a physics stand point. Now that the riser has been cut off the flow is coming out more freely and there is less to no back pressure upstream of the BOP so why would surface cracks form on sea floor,, Quoting: Anonymous Coward 702728because the cheap casing they used is fucked....and who knows how deep down the fucked point is. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 994494 United States 06/06/2010 12:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just my 2ct... I think BP's idea of this cap thing is pumping more oil out of the broken pipe, so the oil won't get lost, instead of really closing that damn thing. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 994512BP is doing what is best for them, not for the people or the environment. I have been ridiculed for this, but I agree with you. I think BP would rather avoid sea water in their oil than to suck hard enough to contain the spill |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 976323 United States 06/06/2010 12:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They have more than one Top Cap I saw on one of the interviews somewhere, each a little different. Also....they cannot stop the leak completely with top caps, not worth the risk, can cause BOP/subsea failure and more. 2 relief wells will be the answer if all goes well. |
