Good question! Maybe the are trying out procedures how to do this unbolting in such deep water.

Reminds me that there is a similar flange at the top of the BOP where that new cap is at the moment.. so maybe they are thinking of doing smth with that flange.

I think what he is talking about is the possibility of the US banning BP from future drilling in US waters and whether that ends up hurting the USA more than it helps.

The U.S. government had an obligation on behalf of all Americans to make sure BP was doing their job -- safety -- planning -- resources. The US government did not do this -- and now they may ban BP to punish them -- ultimately making it more difficult for America to obtain the resources we have and force us to buy from countries that we cannot trust.

Develop other energy resources -- of course. It will still take decades, if ever, for alternate energy sources to make oil obsolete. I would rather have BP safely obtain oil from US sources than buy it from a country who we cannot trust.

There's at least two plumes. One is on the fail machine, the other is in a crater with some pipes similar to the dispersant pipes.

I'm thinking when the bop failed, the seabed ruptured. Maybe not because of the bop, but because of the same thing that made the bop fail.... going too deep.

I think the stories of faults in the bop etc are a cover story for making a big fuck up.
