Do you believe this crap?!?! I got my masters from the University of Phoenix and...

this is sucky.. sorry Op..... I always wondered about how Phoenix degrees stacked up... apparently, this is my answer...


unless you have a physical college to go behind your OE , it doesn't count for much. And usually only then to back up a currently held physical degree i.e. continuing education,, only then does it seem to count.

my wife works in HR, the person was prob. an a-hole about it, but you gotta figure the law of averages with them.....



Look into your requisite certifications, and go from there, do what you have to do, get some letters next to your name....

legit diploma;? it is an online deg.AAS? or is it an MBA.?
You can't have all three
If it is a diploma then it is worthless
If it is AAS degree then it is better than worthless
If it is a true credited MBA then it is online MBA and most of them will not credit over to an actual school MBA
So what is it?
Online schools are a joke and take $$ from people who think they are getting a good education when in fact they are not.

I wasted like 12k on one term with phoenix until i realized their accredidation wasn't recognized by many major companies...and i didn't feel i was getting the same quality education i was from a community college...i did what i could to get into a real university for my comp sci degree....dropped out almost a year b4 graduating...moved 1000 miles from home and 6 months later landed a 60k/yr job because i went to a top level university...i'm glad i ditched phoenix.

Because she biased and has her her planted where there is no sun! She obviously has run across "similar" online schools before which actually were worthless and is making an unwarranted assumption. I would gather some information together and take it to her and demand an apology. If she refused, turn her in to the President of the company.

UOP here had a ten-year accreditation, while our local much-touted community college is losing theirs. I worked my asz off at UOP for four years, and I am proud of it.
It is a good school.

My wife went to university of Colorado when i asked her about phoenix she just laughed.

The University of Phoenix has campuses in a lot of major cities. Not to mention their primary campus in Phoenix and Tempe Arizona.

Really, the only diploma to get online is a high school diploma.

The accreditation that counts is by WASC - the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Any other accreditation for colleges and universities in the western states of the US are basically worthless.

Each geographic area of the country has its own branch of the Association of Schools and Colleges providing accreditation.

I went to Brown in the early 1980s, and I know I got many jobs based on my school...but even then I was worried about how EXPENSIVE school was getting vs how much we were getting paid

I was one of the luckier ones...paid $10K a year, got out earning $35K a year...

later classes paid $40-50K a year, and got out earning the same...\

I hate to tell you this, but many of the places I went would never even look at someone with a degree from an online university

thats the assholic reality of this world as its been engineered

They love investing in crap like Phoenix, but would never hire someone who graduated with a degree from Phoenix

They just want you to carry the debt from that school...

Employer's are about a decade behind. They don't realize that one of the biggest pushes in state colleges is to put more and more of their classes online due to efficiencies and over crowding.

University Of Phoenix just gets a bad wrap because they were the first to show the way to huge bucks online. In another decade most colleges will offer most of their degrees online.

In fact, so will most high schools. It's inevitable. My wife is a high school principal. Home and charter schools are kicking public schools asses more each year in loss of state funding, bonds, radical school boards, bussing issues and grade point averages. She's very worried about the future of public schooling.

Colleges too are feeling the pressure and moving to online courses.

I am a business owner and interview people all day long. I feel so sorry for the folks that come in with their University of Pheonix "degrees". It is not an accredited degree and not worth a thing. The money you spent on this "degree" has been wasted. Very sorry!

These online schools are the scourge of education today. They have huge default rates because nobody trusts the degrees. To prove the illigitimacy of the degree one need only look at how they trick you into thinking they are accredited. There are a series of regional accreditation boards. They don't accredit schools per say, but degrees. So Phoenix comes along and gets one of their 20 degrees accredited properly by the real accreditation board. Then they get a bunch of bogus accreditation from junk boards that have no standing whatsoever. They then tell you the school is accredited by the SW regional board of higher education or what have you, when in fact only their BA of history is.

Well OP, sucks to be us. I just started Phoenix 4 weeks ago. Financial aid and all.. If it isn't a accredited school, then the damn government shouldn't be giving out student loans. Another trap. Probably end up in debtors prison some day. Maybe I should jump ship before I receive my student loans??

You should call places you would like to work at and see if they accept Phoenix diplomas.

Hey OP. I just found out that Verizon Wireless is a partner with UofPhoenix. You might want to see what they have available.

I wrote earlier that I was afraid my son-in-law may have trouble too, but he already had an interview with Verizon, and the starting pay is decent plus great benefits. Lots of room to move up in the company.

I earned my BBA from University of Phoenix (UoP) back in 2004, with honors. I can say that I learned a great deal and had an awesome experience getting my online education. But, what I learned is that the amount of education you get is how much you desire to learn. Some people in my online classes barely skimped by and still got their degree. And others such as myself who were there to WANT to learn got the most out of the program. I challenged myself to make straight A's and I can tell you that it was very difficult to obtain that goal. Yet, since I strived to make those A's, I ended up getting an excellent education and it has helped me to this day in my field as a legal administrator. It is a shame that UoP degrees are frowned upon because I would say that a majority of students do strive to do well and learn as much as possible. It's those few bad apples/loafers who skimped by that give UoP a bad name. Its too bad OP that you were laughed at. I think if UoP found out a way to drop the freeloaders then maybe they could regain their reputation. Online school may seem retarted to those who went to a real college campus, but for me, it was a lifesaver because at 33 (when I decided to go back to college and get my degree) my only choice was to go online. With that said, I am a proud alumni of UoP and grateful that they provided the only way I knew how to finally get my degree.

NOT true. You can get an online degree from schools like Arizona State University, Nevada State College etc...and they are the SAME materials, teachers and programs.

Thanks for you imput. I started Phoenix recently. I just had midterms and I am getting A+'s, so I am going to stick with them and try to get the best GPA I can get. I transfered over from a community college because of the long drive. I think Phoenix is just as good if not better school than where I was at. Traditional classrooms will be for hands on only schooling in the near future.

Education is one thing where free enterprise doesn't work. Who are the school's customers? their students. If profits go down because students are flunking out, solve the profit problem by going easy on the marking or letting them cheat.

I have an MBA from a brick and mortor school. Most classes met every other week, a few were online and some met every week. For most of us the MBA is just a line on our resume at the end of the day.

For me though it was the people I met and went through the program with that made the biggest difference. It has really become a great networking group. And I also feel one of the biggest take aways for me from the MBA was polishing my presentation skills and learning how to be a leader in a group setting.

So I would not knock UOP but it just wasn't the type of degree I was looking for.

In the US, if the institution is not regionally accredited by one of the six accrediting agencies... please see link from our board of education [link to www.chea.org]

it is not highly regarded. I can open a "school" in my garage and have it say "fully accredited" by LEGOS, but it would be worthless!! Furthermore, as a REAL MBA graduate, all business majors know that the AACSB accreditation is the top business accreditation agency globally...

One of the 6 regional accreditations basically just states that the institution is "real" and backed by the US Council for Higher Education Agency (CHEA).. the AACSB is an additional accreditation to say that credits can fully transfer between ANY AACSB recognized business college... kinda like the cherry on top.

UOP is accredited by a "LEGOS" Aka accrediting agency that is worthless. But hey, at least you did learn something about business..... The only way for people like me to get rich is to have idiots like you guys to get ripped off and scammed. CONGRATS!!

Not only that, why do you want to work in the financial sector. That decision in and of itself says you learned nothing online with your "MBA"...

University of Phoenix is a reputable online higher ed provider. I know people who got BA and graduate degrees and that was accepted education requirements for professional employment. I do not know with finance, but other degrees are viewed as from an accredited university. It was hard work and demanding from what I heard. I we.t to a state college myself.

I got my B.S. in Information Technology from UoP this year. I have been in IT field for 15 years and decided that i should have a bachelors degree as well. My company paid for the education i got from UoP. It cost them almost $45000 over 4 years. Since i started UoP i was promoted twice. I work for the best Orthopedics hospital in U.S. They accept UoP degrees.

If you are young and do not have any experience i do not recommend UoP. My situation was different. I am a father and have a full time job. I really do not have time to commute to brick and mortar school. I also have a very good experience in my field. I just needed to supplement my experience with a degree. I do not think UoP is easy. I am a DBA and work with very large SQL and Oracle databases. I have an associates degree from a community college in computer engineering. I can tell you if i did not stay awake after midnight in some classes i could not have graduated. So you do have to put some effort to graduate.

On that note OP, do not give up. Build your experience in your field and use the degree to supplement it.

Would not work for a dickhead like you anyways.
