What is so frigging great about the sci-fi daydream of 'igniting Jupiter' ?
If Jupiter was somehow ignited (not enough mass to support nuclear fusion, so that's impossible) than the resulting shockwave would decimate the Earth and burn it to a crisp.

Then, Jupiter would burn for an incredibly short time before its lack of mass caused it to burn out.

We wouldn't have a second sun. We'd just have a big mess on our hands.

Which is why even if we did have the technology to do it, NOBODY thinks it's a good idea.
