yes under current conditions you are correct. But they can work.

last year spain supplied over 50% power from wind alone.

it can be done!

In Dallas the area near DFW Airport also had a chemical fire this morning ... and there was a Care-Flite medical evac chopper (new , built by Bell) that suddenly broke apart in the air during a mechanical evaluation flight last week & crashed w/ explosion & killed 2 - pilot + mechanic.

Fire leads to evacuation of hundreds of employees at Irving plant

Better not do any trenching without getting line locates first from the Gas, Water, Electric, Phone, Cable companies. Bust something and you are liable. City utilities have easement rights. I used to do line locates for several cable companies. Kept plenty of pink spray in the truck to mark the underground cable runs. If cable got cut after I located it, my bad. No locate, your bad. $150 to pay for a truck roll to splice it back together(that 20 years ago). Crop a main fiber run today and God knows what they would. 911 service runs on those now. They have services now that will do it all with just one phone call.

if you have ground rights and they put something in my ground I would dig it out and tell them come and get it!

then sue them!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 994571

Good luck with that. No, really. I only dealt with preexisting hard plant. Not sure how a new build would be handled if they needed to go through your property. I don't think they could just just come on your land, start digging and installing stuff. Each city probably has their own way of handling that situation.
Don't want to turn this into 'Gone with the Wind', you know long and boring but want to relate a story. I was with TCI in Dallas. We had a fiber hub right across the street from me. A nice quiet block. I know the fiber was buried there because I helped install it and was testing the new digital boxes at my house. Cable, phone, internet. Anyway these guys came trenching down the sidewalk. Got close to my house so I went out and talked to them. WHAT UP? Finally found somebody who spoke some English. He said it was for a new cable co. called WESTERN Cable. Total bullshit. TCI had the only charter for the city of Dallas. No other builds were allowed. They kept right on trenching. I called the office and was told it would be looked into, never found out anything, stonewalled. Called the city and got nothing. Well they trenched my sidewalk busted up my brick planters. I was hot and raised hell. Almost instantly a guy showed up out of nowhere in a white truck, spoke perfect English and handed me a real nice check. Asked if I was happy, I said I happy. He drove off. They replaced the sidewalk and planters and I still had the nice check. I swear to God still to this day those guys were under contract from the CIA or NSA.

Reporting pipeline fire was near a natural gas collection facility. The fire is out and the brush fires in the surrounding area are out.

(CNN) -- A 36-inch underground natural gas pipeline exploded into flames Monday in Johnson County, Texas, killing three people and injuring at least eight, officials said.

"There was a crew working on the line and they apparently ruptured it somehow, and caused an explosion," Cleburne, Texas, City Manager Chester Nolen told CNN in a telephone interview.

The line is owned by Enterprise Products out of Houston, he said.
The pipeline erupted around 2:40 p.m., and the shaking lasted for about 10 minutes, said Laura Harlin, who lives about a mile away.

Latest report CBS Channel 11 in Dallas now @ 5:20pm CDT:

They are now saying there may be 6 dead and 6 injured with several of the injured sent by air to the Burn Unit at Parkland Hospital in Dallas (UT Southwestern Medical School). There was no mention in this last update of any missing so they may have now found remains of those that were earlier being counted as "missing."

Those collection facilities" that are rather mmore like mini processing plants are really, really spooky .... very nervous to have to drive past them along rural roads & highways ,,,, and there's some bigger ones going in too -- these are all over the place.

One of those explodes from any cause and it will take out everything around ... numerous pipelines like this one that ruptured or was ruptured feed into those facilities so huge explosive force, way bigger than this one today!

HOLD ON FOLKS ... BREAKING

CBS 11 in Dallas right now @ 5:27pm CDT reporting that a Mexican Restaurant has exploded in town of GAINESVILLE, TEXAS which is about 40 miles north of Dallas, town is on I-35 & near the Red River border area w/ southern Oklahoma.

News is saying this just happened & there are 6 ambulances & medical helicopters from Dallas heading to the scene!

A few more oil accidents and we will be forced to find an alternative energy source right away, not in a few years.

Yea, like nuclear fusion, and thorium based nuclear reactors. Anything else does not have the required and necessary energy flux density. Sure we can run our houses on Solar/Wind, but you cannot run the industry of a nation the size of the USA on only Solar/Wind/ and Hydro.

A lot of power right of ways are shared by oil and gas lines so anyone digging should know where gas lines are located prior to working with a digging machine.

Restaurant Explosion in Gainesville, TX

Posted: June 7, 2010 05:02 PM CDT

GAINESVILLE, TX -- At approximately 4:20PM an explosion was reported at the El Taquito restaurant at 221 North Weaver in Gainesville, TX.

Injuries involving a child and possibly 3 adults have been reported. No exact cause of the explosion has been determined, but natural gas appears to be related. Medical helicopters from Dallas have been called in. Emergency crews have blocked off areas in and around Broadway and Weaver.

/ End Quote

Sure might be interesting if people did some searching of breaking news sources, AP, Google News. local TV & papers with keywords like explosion, leak, fire, gas, etc and see if there are other incidents occurring in areas not being reported in the mms. I too am feeling that this one coming right after the other is weird ......

Time to create better industry then.

Perhaps time to understand just how much energy it takes to boil a gallon of water... that's something that never changes... and like all universal physical principles indicates that there are indeed limits imposed.

Time to discover some more universal physical principles.

EXELON needs to pay for things, especially the upgrade of their old grids and nuclear plants. Wouldn't surprise me in the least!

Possible Victoria Nuclear Power Plant

The zero-emission nuclear power plant proposed for Victoria, Texas is on hold due to economic conditions. Exelon will continue to seek an early site permit, which would provide us the opportunity to seek a construction and operating license for up to 20 years.

* Pennsylvania

This makes 8 natural gas / oil disasters in 45 days. This is why I say the story sounds like bullshit. Besides, two natural gas sites explode on the same day? That's almost as rare as hitting lotto.

LIST

Gulf oil disaster
North Sea rig stability issue and leak
Tanker collision in Singapore
Alaskan Pipeline spill
Natural Gas rig sinks in Venezuela
