If you have good info and details please share so that gulf residents can get out ahead of the madness. |

Alot will depend on the air quality from the dispersants and chemicals the oil gives off. Thats the question now. HOw bad the chemicals from the oil and dispersants will affect the air quality in the gulf. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 995938Hang on for more. Unconfirmed then why report it? Seriously, why would this get pinned without a shred of evidence? I'm guessing because all available evidence suggests that it is far overdue and thus not a huge surprise. Benzyne is bad for living things. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 940676 United States 06/07/2010 11:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is from a GLP member, his comments are in this thread: Thread: Forced evacuations of 40 million begin in less than two weeks? That's quite arrogant and self-important of you Mr. Hatfield. To think we are just begging you to be convinced, your loss, only time will tell. Quoting: Hatfield--------------------------------------------------- If you detect arrogance it's because I'm a freaking Earth Scientist, I don't need anyone begging me or convincing me to do anything. Everybody thinks they are an expert and has to play armchair quarterback. Forgive me if I don't trust the site the OP posted. I find very little credibility in it. I'm very well aware of the ramifications of the approaching clusterfuck. I've spent the better part of the week trying to obtain funding for my university so we can attempt to set up our own air monitoring stations to provide independent analysis instead of relying on the bullshit EPA. However, at $5,000 - $7,000 a unit, just for a lease, this is not an easy task to accomplish. If we can get the funding, we can create a method of conveyance using GIS and relay this information to the folks that need it. As of now, the only method 1st responders can rely on is the EPA's site set up in conjunction with bp. They have dozens of air quality monitoring stations along the coast, most of which they are taking their sweet ass time reporting the data. Additionally, the EPA is classifying the more harmful toxic compounds in crude oil into the VOC (volatile organic compounds) category. The problem with lumping the more toxic compounds together becomes a serious issue when traces of benzene and hydrogen sulfide are at ppm concentrations far past safe levels for human exposure. However, this is not factored in when grouping them all together. They need to be measured on an individual basis. Now tell me how many sheep do you think will trust the EPA or have any freakin idea what I just spoke about in my last paragraph? Hell, thousands of 1st responders are trusting them by forgoing the use of respirators, when in fact they should be retrofitted with Class A Hazmat suits, equipped with full breathing apparatus and taking breaks in shifts in decontaminated environments. Do you seriously think the EPA will tell the sheep the air isn't safe? That's highly unlikely. If I decide to leave in 2 weeks, I'm fairly certain traffic will be flowing as it normally would, unless a hurricane forms before then. If that's the case, then I won't be responding to this thread in 14 days regardless. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 990655 United States 06/07/2010 11:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | CJKX NEWS- 6/7/10 -Grand Isle, Louisiana- Folks in Grand Isle, Louisiana are going to have a big problem this year when hurricane season this year. The Deepwater disaster is making for deep trouble for some Louisiana inhabitants along the coast and on Grand Isle. The fear is that strong hurricane winds could blow much of the oil further inland; covering coastal regions in a potentially toxic mix of oil and chemicals BP has used to try and disperse the oil. FEMA personnel have been spotted by local residents as recently as today. “I saw –FEMA (Spells it out)on some trucks I think.” said one teenager. Law enforcement sources tell CJKX an evacuation order is imminent for much of coastal Louisiana. Todd Barberton CJKX San Diego [link to theintelhub.com] |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 360796 United States 06/07/2010 11:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you live there and are not planning for an eventual evac scenario then you're not thinking. There is no other outcome. With this eruption flowing unabated and no promise for it to be stopped in the near, or even distant future plus the threat of hurricanes there will be evacuations. You all saw Katrina. Anyone 20 miles or closer to shore should have contingency plans and money saved. Take out your maps and highlight the route to your optimal destination, keep your vehicles tuned up and ready to go with cash on hand. Plan A will be short term vacay out of town. Plan B will be a couple months, allowing for assessed damage and that oil flow to be stopped. Plan C you might not return in the forseeable future. This is coming. And all the manatees in Florida will be gone. |
