OK,

so in 1929 what would have been a better place for your money----stocks, bonds, cash??

Consider that most people have a 401 K plan and ARE NOT going to take their money out.

What would be the best place to park it, and why..

please, no 20 yr old cheaters with an expert advice

Cash was king the last time around...but this is quite different.

IMHO cash hedged with PMs....deflation first, followed by hyperinflation (if we make it that far).

Thanks. Makes you wonder though if gold is at 1200 or whatever, how stable it will be. Seems like the majority will listen to the advice of stay in stocks for the long haul. By the time they figure it out----gone.

What about bonds?? This might be a very different situation as 1929 as stated. Any chance bonds will have a chance at all?? Most people who diversify split between stocks/bonds. If they even glimpse stocks tumbling they run directly for bonds.

Should be safe short term. but between me, you and the fencepost, I'm not so sure the U.S. makes it out of this in one piece....but I'm just a squirrel, ya know.

Bonds only promise to give you X% more Federal Reserve Notes at the end of some defined time-period.

The question then goes to one of anticipated future PURCHASING POWER of said non-backed notes...

A better place for your money is to buy a rural acreage or farm.

Best to own the land outright if possible - a one acre garden is a HUGE amount of food, so it's better to *own* a few acres than to have a mortgage on a hundred and sixty acres.

Another alternative is, if you find a good property, see if you can subdivide it once and purchase the small productive piece outright while holding a mortgage on the rest.

If you are strapped for cash, get an old trailer for a few thousand dollars to put on the property, and plan to build something more substantial (da BIG house) while you live in the trailer.

(That trailer may later house your serfs who will be working the land for you so they have a crust of bread at the end of the day. Just kidding. Sort of.)

It wouldn't hurt to invest in some pre-electric type tools and equipment, either. And canning jars.

OMG this all sounds so exhausting.

Re: WOW! TOP YAHOO FINANCE NEWS TICKER ARTICLE!!!!!!!!!
Interesting...I remember reading about the Cahokia Indians around 600 to 1600 CE CE. They had quite a bit of territory, control, and influence in what is today the Midwest. Thier diet consisted mostly of corn as most native American cultures did. But what was unusual about them is they all dissapeared relatively quickly as thier civilzation collapsed.

Perhaps they had several successive crop failures, but either way, thier ways and wisdom is only left in the clay pots and other things that have survived the test of time.

600 to 1600 CE is a thousand years.

The Industrial Revolution + the modern age is only around 150 years old.

So, it's not a matter of if, but when our civilization collapses. A powerful solar flare could end it all and send us back 150 years when the earth could only support just under a billion people given the farming tech back then.

Yes....there are also events that we have no control over, and it sure does appear we are dealing (or about to be) with some of them now.

As grim as it all looks, I find it helps me to focus on what I can control. Take positive actions to do my best to be in a position of helping my family and others.

Take it by the horns, and if I get gored by the universe...so be it. At least I gave my best effort!

Were on a journey through space and time, but is only one small part of the overall adventure that most are not cognizant of.

We learn more through shared experiences and adventures than going it alone. But, with today's world, we rely less and less on others through the medium of fiat currency rather than sharing a helping hand.

In a world where it requires us to help each other, such as building a barn, or growing crops on a farm, raising kids etc draws us closer together and teaches us more than the current system we have where its everyone for him/herself and what can you do for me type of thinking.

Less divorces means sticking it out for both spouses and is better for it in the long run because survival demands putting aside things to do so. As a consequence things are learned that would not have been in todays world.

Nice. Someone made some money today.

I cant help but have a nagging feeling that when it hits 10k again, there will be a massive sell off.

No matter the news today or tomorrow, things are so unstable now. If I still had money in the markets, that is what I would do.

Re: WOW! TOP YAHOO FINANCE NEWS TICKER ARTICLE!!!!!!!!!
The "rea" question is...

"How can the WHOLE WORLD be BROKE?

Who's hold the note?

The only thing I can view as "collateral" in the future are SOULS!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 991523

The Queen of England holds "the note" because: (1) she is the head of all freemasonry in the world, (2) she directs the Illuminati banking House of Rothschild whose principals head all of the central banks worldwide, (3) she owns controlling interest in the Monsanto Corporation which has a monopoly on the world's seed market, and (4) she controls 70% of the world's grain harvest.

The Queen also still holds the position that she still reigns as sovereign over the American colonies which explains why Obama in his position with the International Monetary fund (IMF) takes his direction from her.

The intimate relationship between the Queen and the 'public" American government facade becomes more apparent when one becomes aware that she owns most of the land around Denver, Colorado. This is significant as Denver is the location where the U.S. Government has been relocating their most sensitive operations (CIA, NSA, etc.) to for the last 10 years.

The relocation of Queen and America's "public" government is necessary because after the pole shift happens which is imminent both the British isles and Washington, D.C. will both disappear beneath the sea.

One more little warning for the folks who are paying attention. Thanks for the tip OP.
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? I was told if you have all your savings in a 401 - move it all to cash. Back it up with silver, or if you can pay go for gold to keep for emergencies.

Wouldn't this mean there's one more "sucker rally" to come? I mean don't you always rush opposite of the way the media is pushing the market? Maybe Ben's got helicopters and sacks of hundreds on standby....they got practice in Iraq, right?
