The Iranians have carefully observed US smart weapons in Iraq, and have devised a solution -- dig deeper. Israeli high tech weapons were useless against a well entrenched Hezbollah in 2006. The fact is that Iran has had a decade to bury its nuclear, and command and control facilities far beyond the reach of any conventional weapon. This is not rocket science. Have Abdul and Habib with bulldozers digging instead of just Abdul. Cheap and effective. I've seen estimates where a "rods from god" solution would be 50-100x more expensive in full deployment than a lower tech bomb / rocket. I believe that the cost just to put something in low earth orbit is around $10,000 / kg. |
