Glacier flood confirmed from western Skaftárkatli cauldron


Today (30.08.2012) an glacier flood was confirmed from the western Skaftárkatli cauldron. This glacier flood is small as expected. But it did take several days longer to appear from Vatnajökull glacier then expected. Some hydro-thermal activity in Hamarinn volcano (Bárðarbunga volcano) seems to be currently taking place at the moment. But some harmonic tremor spikes have been taking place in the past two hours....

i missed the first 15 minutes, so I'm recording the full episode on tuesday when it's on next. i want to know what they were on about in the build up to when they were talking about the killer fogs.

this thing keeps taking little steps upwards, all the time

look at the blue signal. it has been heading upwards since 15th May

slow, steady rise, now on 21 nm/sec, started off on May 15th at around 5nm/sec

i have the charts saved

it's very subtle, but DEFINITE!

nice observation. wish i'd saved the charts -any chance of posting any of them? : )

Well if it didn't blow in the spring or summer it's very unlikely it will blow in the autumn/winter cos the ice sheet above the volcano is beginning to freeze off again !

And it would take much more pressure to break through the ice in winter than in the summer !

I've been waiting for Katla to blow for 2.5 years...so far

since the eruption last year, it has had constant quakes. constant. that was just the start.

i don't like the fact the build up is so slow. it worries me.

people are too blase about the potential of this thing. honestly, i think tsunamis, big quakes, poison clouds, dark ashy skies and freezing weather are in our immediate future here in the UK.

in the mid 1700s, around the time when Katla was having one of her larger episodes, poison clouds, huge EQs, tsunamis, all hit the western atlantic region

btw, winter/summer, no difference. when that load down there is ready to spurt, spurt it will. you are giving ice a bit too much credit there I think.

if anything like laki happened again the death toll europe wide would be horrendous

back in the 1700s, people were far more resilient, and closer to the land. we're all mollycoddled little sheepies now, totally reliant on Tesco to keep us alive.

cut one of the threads of civilisation, and the whole web will come crashing down. just wait and see.

Earthquakes in Tindafjallajökull volcano


One of the most quiet volcanoes in Iceland had earthquake swarm today (17.09.2012). I am not aware of any major earthquake activity in Tindafjallajökull volcano during the past 20 years. I am not sure that if there has been any earthquake activity in Tindafjallajökull volcano during this time. One off-earthquake might have happened once in a while....
