Quoting: KoNYo 976332The brain evolves till far into your 20’s. most of its growth happens in puberty, but some final twitches are done till 25 or something. Docters in Holland have shown this through somekinda X-ray study of the brain. If its still a growing “organ” I think any temporing by docters prematurely is an inaccurate science. Changing its “motor fluid” with pills might be the worst thing to do. True. Mental health facilities won't hire nurses under 25 because they can take on the personalities of the mental patients. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1011742 07/14/2010 07:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've seen what all these "medications" do to people, and it ain't good. Quoting: WoodspriteGrew up with a Mother that was yearly in the "hospital" for treatment, manic depression. Thru the years, they pumped her and then my half brother, full of so much shit....it was hard to know what was the medication talking, and what was them. Life was a constant roller coaster ride with them...moods shift in the blink of an eye. All the crap never made either 1 any better. I think the side effects they have on your body, is why my mother died at 63...hard on your heart, and other internal organs. Even though I have had battles with bouts of depression, anxiety and panick attacks......I refuse to be medicated like they were. I've learned to recognize when I need to change my thought patterns.....use weed every day to keep everything on an even keel. I think I've already had a much better life than either of them ever did/have. I've never had to be hospitalized, and for the most part, it now takes something very big , emotionally traumatic to throw me back down in the pit. Sometimes it takes longer to climb back out...but I eventually get there. At least I know my thoughts and feelings are my own...not a product of some foreign substance , playing hell with my brain chemistry. I'm also not a walking zombie.. In all honesty, I believe this part of me is not such a bad thing. Some of my greatest paintings/creations have come pouring out of me when I'm a bit "manic". The weed lets me focus, and I get lost in what I'm doing, and these awesome things that are inside of me, come pouring out. I know if I took those drugs to "level me out"...I would lose that part of me. I'd rather keep the low spots, than lose that. For all I know, the pain is also an influence on my art....you do need an emotional connection to what you are painting, for it to move other people. Sometimes, I think everyone is just too scared of a bit of pain, a bit of darkness in their lives. Too ready to pop a pill to kill the slightest discomfort. It may not feel good at the moment, but it is an essential part of the "life experience", and a neccesary tool that we learn by, I think. Society wanted to stick my son on Ritalin when he was in school...I refused to do it. You'd be surpised how hard they push...try to make you feel like you are not being a good parent, because you don't want to give your child speed every day! I thought it best that my son learn to control his own body, than be dependant on a drug to do it..knowing that he would have to stop taking it in the worst of times...the teenage years. We went to Thai Chi classes together every week...and I used creative visualization to calm him down when he needed to be...had him close his eyes and took him to a calm and peaceful place. I would also give him a cup of Chamomile Tea every morning, before school. He did alright without all their drugs! He graduated on time, never had any big problems at school, no violence, ever. It took time for me to do those things though...took time out of my day, every day, for years. Most parents either just don't have that kind of time because they are so busy trying to earn a living......or they don't have the stamina to be consistant , and follow thru.....it's easier to just give the kid a pill every day. I hate all of the drugs on that list...because I've seen it, my whole life...and none of them ever truly do good, or heal anyone. I think they should ALL be classified as "poisons", instead of "medications", or "drug therapy". Thank you for being a caring parent!! |

You know when you have taken too much when you get diarrhea. No big deal. Just take a little less. For those who are constipated get magnesium oxide. It is cheap and works like a charm. It is not utilized by the body as well as other forms hence how it works for constipation but you will still get great benefits. Start with maybe 250 mg and go from there. |

While neurons produce it naturally, a GABA supplement can help you experience the many benefits of GABA. Without getting too scientific, GABA is an important chemical within the human brain. It is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, and as such it serves the brain by regulating the firing of neurons. Without gamma-aminobutyric acid, your muscles would be constantly tense, your mind would never stop racing, and your overall ability to function would be severely impaired. Gaba supplements can be taken to increase this valuable resource in your body. The GABA Supplement Experience The sensation that gamma-aminobutyric acid gives is unique, and unlike any other commercially available natural supplement or drug. The descriptions vary from individual to individual, but the overall consensus is that there is something very special about natural GABA supplements. Additional Information * Increase in the level of Human Growth Hormones (HGH) * Induces relaxation and sleep * Reduces muscle tension * Reduces stress, anxiety and depression * Promotes well being GABA is produced in the human brain and functions as a balancer, maintains balance between the body and the mind in states of excitation. GABA supplement aids several complications including Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD, hypertension or HBP, obesity, insomnia, alcoholism and many more. It is also a great help in treating mental blocks. GABA supplements are helpful for any active individuals, bodybuilders and athletes. They help in enhancing the body’s muscle mass, which is GABA’s conductive anabolic property and its lipotropic property helps in fat reduction and weight loss programs, simultaneously. Medications prescribed to treat major depression are often those designed to increase the availability of serotonin, dopamine and/or nor epinephrine in the brain, neurotransmitters involved in a number of processes, including mood. Yet patients who don't respond to those classes of drugs may in fact have an imbalance in another key brain chemical, GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). Depression Not Always Due to Serotonin, Dopamine, Nor Epinephrine Imbalance Major depression is a complex mood disorder that can be caused by a number of underlying and potentially intertwined biochemical and psychological factors. While some patients respond to serotonin therapies, for others, SSRI's don't improve their symptoms or can even make them worse. Scientists in a study released in 2005, "Corelease of Dopamine and Serotonin from Striatal Dopamine Terminals" found that higher serotonin concentrations caused by SSRIs can "trick" transporters of another key neurotransmitter, dopamine, into retrieving serotonin into dopamine vesicles. This is referred to as "cosignaling" and can lead to a dangerous, even life threatening condition called serotonin syndrome. In a March 2010 study published in Biological Psychiatry, co-authors Drs. Andrea J. Levinson and Zafiris J. Daskalakis of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) studied a group of brain chemicals involved in virtually all brain activity, the neurotransmitter GABA. In the study, individuals who were the least likely to respond well to prior depression treatments were also the ones with the lowest level of GABA in their brain. |

Treatment for Adrenal Fatigue GABA is Gamma-aminobutyric acid, a neurotransmitter and the cornerstone of the inhibitory (calming) system in the body; controlling the action of epinephrine, norepinephrine, and dopamine. GABA deficiency can be linked to anxiety disorders such as panic attacks, seizure disorders insomnia, weight gain, loss of libido, and numerous other conditions including addiction, headaches. 5-HTP Serotonin is a neurotransmitter, or more correctly a neuromodulator, that is widely distributed throughout the brain and generally enhances GABA and therefore has inhibitory activity. Therefore, as a precursor to serotonin, 5-HTP can further increase the activity of GABA. Low serotonin levels are frequently an underlying component of many clinical conditions that are also related to GABA function, e.g. insomnia, depression, & anxiety. L-Theanine L-theanine is an amino acid found in green tea that produces a calming effect in the brain. It works by increasing gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) that is a relaxer and creates a sense of well-being. L-theanine may be taken to help modulate mood and relieve stress in many health conditions (Abe et al. 1995; Kobayashi et al. 1998; Juneja et al. 1999). Licorice Licorice (Glycyrrhiza) works by blocking the breakdown of hydrocortisone in the liver. the hydrocortisone level then becomes higher, and this slows down the production of ACTH (adrenocorticotrophic hormone) from the pituitary gland, giving the adrenals a much-needed rest. Licorice is a highly prized medicinal in Chinese medicine. Glycyrrhiza may be taken in a variety of ways, including as a tea. Licorice can the be tapered off when adrenal gland function is restored.
