That is a pretty sad thing to see.

And once in a while they help humans lost at sea, to shore. Generally dolphins are the angels of the sea but turles have occasionally, deliberately, rescued lost sailors.

I was told the "x" is marked on the sea turtle so that the shell cannot be harvested. It is illegal to be in possession of any part of a sea turtle, dead or alive. While vacationing last week in Melbourne Beach, a dead sea turtle washed up. A lady from the "turtle society" showed up. She estimated that the turtle was about 20 years old and showed no obvious signs of what caused its death. She along with another person on the beach pulled the turtle up above the high tide line. She said that somebody would be by in the morning to pick it up. She also explained the reason for spray painting the "x" on it.

I am so disappointed with our Human race. And we consider ourselves the Intelligent ones. You never see any type of animal, killing its own as we do, poisoning or plotting against it as we do. It is so sad. I am ready to Leave, to meet my creator. Its Time to Start all over again. He has done it before, its our time now. We deserve it for allowing others to rule and destroy.

Interesting. In that Anderson Cooper video when he was saying they weren't allowed to see he birds that were being cleaned my mind was wandering to the "whys." One thing was "What if their flesh was eaten off their bodies from chemicals or something?" There HAS to be a crazy reason they aren't allowing photographs/video/etc. People KNOW dead animals are washing up. It's not a secret. But what about them aren't we allowed to see????

Just as an FYI as to the meaning of the Red X: (from the DEP)

"Unfortunately, strandings (dead or weakened sea turtles) occur all year throughout the area beaches. Unless there is a large red “X” painted on the sea turtle’s carapace (upper shell) the sea turtle patrol should be called at 904-241-7631. A red “X” means the turtle has already been examined and reported to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). If the turtle is alive do not attempt to put it back in the ocean. Try to keep it wet with a towel or shirt until the Florida Marine Patrol or someone from the Sea Turtle Patrol arrives."
