COrizon,

According to the linked Corexit EC9527A datasheet, the chemical density of the disperant is:

8.2 - 8.5 lb/gal

550 * 8.3 = 4565 + 645lb (empty weight) = 5210 lbs

SO at 5k plus pounds it could still be both oil or dispersant , with dispersant being slightly heavier...

Re: PART OF THE BP RIG ENDED UP ON OUR BEACH TODAY!!!
can someone do the chemical math and tell me the weight per gallon of the corexit at

TWA: 5 mg/m3

per its hazmat sheet?

[link to www.cleancaribbean.org]
 Quoting: COrizon

5 milligrams per cubic meter? ball pack in English units... meter is slightly more than a yard.. so 36" by 36" by 36" (a cubic yard) is a very rough estimate of a cubic meter... so very very roughly 5 milligrams / cubic yard.. ?

So, the container being full of this stuff (550 gals) would then be fairly close to neutral bouyancy.

if you look at the picture of it in the water , it has barely any of itself out of the water at all , this thing was dragging the floor where it was, and they say i guess it dragged all the way here before the oil got here , which is light and floats on the surface?

Reason I ask is because if it was completley full of Sea water, would it not just have sunk? (assume no air pocket in it or nothign substantial).

I could see the undersea currents being enough to push this around if it was not full of sea water.. or full of something slightly less dense than seawater... if it was full of sea water shouldn't it be sitting on the bottom?... completely sunk wuold it not...? I have no experience with ocean stuff... only fresh water lakes and rivers which are somewhat different critters.

The images from page three are gone too.

I just read the whole thread. I tell you what, this cute little game of information management the TPTB is playing is pitiful! :LMAO-MG:

You guys handled them very well. Nice work. :Thumbs-up-Aiwan:

I started a thread on the same topic when it first came out... Thread: Deepwater Horizon tank washes up in Panama City; Workers promptly remove BP logos

The story DID change... these are the few quotes I copied,

[link to www.floridaoilspilllaw.com]

Deepwater Horizon tank washes up in Panama City; Workers promptly remove BP logos

"A large metal container or storage tank, capable of holding several thousand gallons, washed ashore in the Laguna Beach area of Bay County, Florida Saturday morning. Residents say first crews to the area said they believed the tank, with BP logos, came from the Deep Water Horizon Oil Rig that exploded, burned and sank off the coast of Louisiana 55 days ago. …"

.."it's not known what is inside the tank but the Coast Guard, Bay County Hazmat Teams and The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission sealed off the area for a thousand feet after fumes from the tank were so noxious people began feeling ill. …"

(continued at link..)

There is a video at the link. I don't know how to add it to this site.

[link to i157.photobucket.com]

What must be done is to open a image hosting account like at imageshack, and take screen shots of stories, save images, and save info. They are in a panic to control this info. Keep a camera with you at all time.

Every night about this time, they unsticky almost all threads. Keep tracking stuff and it will rise to the top again.

Now the BIG question is.. what kind of tidal forces were happening to plop that huge container on the beach? Hellooooo? Did you all just have some major storms? An incredibly high tide? What?

OMG look at this:
We're told the 5,000 pound tank can hold up to 550 gallons. A yellow oily substance is inside. On the side of the tank a green and white placard reads BP "Horiz". Which officials say is short for Horizon.

The officials are saying HORIZ stands for Horizon, but I am incredulous. It could just as easily stand for Horizontal, to indicate the containers should be stacked horizontally. Why wouldn't the just spell out HORIZON? Its only 2 more letters. scratching
