PART OF THE BP RIG ENDED UP ON OUR BEACH TODAY!!!

Well we achieved something tonight ,
we now know what type of container it was, we know they can be used to house either oil or cor-exit, we know Bp is claiming it , or at least allowing the officials to say it belongs to them and came from deep-water horizon and we know there are spots where signs previous were :) is all that for sure ?

Yea, like BP redirecting everyone to think this came from the rig so they won's suspect that BP is just carelessly dumping these things into the sea when they are done with them -- you mean that kind of rediretion?

...and what they used to lift it, transport it...

...any takers on the model trailer?

The point is how heavy this thing was when they lifted it out of the sea and off the beach.. how much stuff was still in it... was it empty with only a gallon or two of crap in it, or was it fuller, etc..

How heavy is this container when its empty?

I am going to hypothesize this came from something to do with the big BP party on the ocean.. this is not based on any confirmed fact but rather my own opinion , that the odds of this NOT being related are slim to none...

Any John Deere medium size payloader experts out here? 645 Lbs would not be a problem at all for that old John Deere 4020 payloader, but then it was a bigger heavier tractor than this one.

Yes it probably is. Usually put one on each side. If I was able to figure out how to post a pic i would walk outside and take a pic of the exact containers we have here. It most likely was oil.

PANAMA CITY BEACH — Bay County's first tangible landfall from the Deepwater Horizon accident is not tar balls or oil plumes. Instead, it was a suspected piece of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig that exploded and sank off the coast of Louisiana in April.

According to U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Steve Caskey, a tank weighing 5,000 pounds with a 550-gallon capacity washed ashore near 14th Street and Front Beach Road in Laguna Beach.

“It was leaking when it washed up on the beach,” Caskey said. “There is some oil in it. There was sheen created from the tank leaking.”

Caskey said there were BP markings on the tank and other evidence that it came from the Deepwater Horizon rig.

The Coast Guard pulled it from the surf and has taken the tank to the Coast Guard station at Naval Support Activity Panama City.

Crews Saturday afternoon were driving posts into the shoreline and stringing absorbent boom for about 100 yards along the shore.

Caskey said that part of the beach and shoreline is closed “until the threat is mitigated.”

Hazmat trucks were on the scene cleaning up and making sure residents and visitors are safe.

The Coast Guard also was driving up and down the beach looking for anything else that might have washed up.

The average weight of a gallon of oil is ? from what i can see 7ish pounds, so 550x7 is 3850? plus 645 is 4495.

Let X = 7 lbs/gal (or whatever the density of sea water is)
Let Y = 645 lbs empty container weight.

X times 550 gallons is 3850 lbs...

3850 + Y = 4,495 lbs.

But is sorta depends on the density of what ever it was filled with.

We're told the tank is being shipped to a big warehouse in Louisiana for an investigation which could take days to figure out what’s exactly inside.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if the thing was filled with something as dense as seawater (or denser), wouldn't that totally kill the bouyancy? The additional 645 lbs would then put it at negative bouyuancy?
