So the student doesn't mind if he harasses someone on the street, but he doesn't want to be harassed so he blocks his face out. What a dipshit.

He was questioning a representative of the public, or at least attempted to. So that's harassment now? Geez-oh.

------

When you stick a camera in somebody's face and start to ask obnoxious questions of a person on his own time, then yes, I believe it to be harassment. There's a time and a place for press conferences and interviews. Beyond that, I think there should be open season on paparazzi who refuse to give public figures that private time (yes, I know the young dude called himself a student but he acts like a paparazzi so he is one).

Look, the man was obviously under a lot of stress ..probably trying to solve the oil spill crisis... cut him some slack

He was at a Nancy Pelosi Fund raiser you hack. HE was not feverishly working on the Oil spill. Try again.

THEN that explains it!!! Would you be a happy man attending any Pelosi event that wasn't Her funeral?

Really! No appointment because you need an appointment to talk to anyone, on a public street.

Some people I am starting to think need to move to South Africa!

Accountability comes with the territory when you take a job such as a Congressman. That and a little decorum, is that too much to ask for nowadays?

Political figures are used to and are paid to have people approaching them with questions all the time. I found the Congressmans bahaviour more than mildly disturbing.

What's so obnoxious about asking him if he is in political accord with Obama anyway?

Maybe he had a pertinent follow up?

Well, I know that if I had been the one assulted, I would do one of two things: Either the piece of shit representative would have drawn back a stump instead of a hand, or he would have been arrested.

Ten bucks says that nothing comes of this, and Fox will be the only 'news' outlet to cover it..if even they do.

This is the best entry in the history of mankind...perfect...

It took a ton of discipline and composure not to somehow fight back or retaliate and also not to answer each specific question posed by the old bozo employee to his two youthful bosses...I myself could not have held back...But since the students did hold back, a one-way assault charge should be pending against this bozo by police authorities AND he should be impeached AND convicted by his peers on Capitol Hill...This is clearly an impeachable offense...Finally, if he is not impeached AND convicted, he should resign and go home to beat his wife, dog, and secret on-the-side girlfriend...

What if they held an election and nobody showed up?

This is the answer IMHO. Every election purports to throw out the bums and bring in the heroes, or so we think. But of course is not true since there are always bums in office. Politics does not attract good, moral candidates. It attracts criminals and perverts, mostly. There are many justifications for not voting (religuous, political, lawful, historical) but it boils down to: "I am not a registered voter, I didn't vote for you and you don't represent me." It will never happen but is the theoretical method for unwinding this mess in DC. It falls in upon itself and melts away.

HUH? media would just spin control it

almost EVERY election in USA
*The Biggest Vote* is always for "None Of What Is On Ballot"

but the media still counts all those votes as
"Those Who Do Not vote"
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 982918

Indeed. First criteria for something like this to work would be an informed, educated and intelligent society. Oh well.

Geez-o-pete!

What is this congressman's name?
What he did is considered assault.

Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-NC)

He is a Dixiecrat, not a Democrat!

This, from his campaign site, says it all:

Bob and Faye remain active in their church and both teach Sunday School. For his diligent and decades-long work for the Boy Scouts, Etheridge has received the Silver Beaver Award; the highest award a Scout leader can receive.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 751882

Ah, yes -- the internationally acclaimed silver beaver award. He does appear to be "inebriated". No defense, civilly for the battery, or criminally for the assault, i think. Just got to love those holy, god fearing leaders.

Etheridge was obviously drunk, or at least ambulating along in whatever state of sobriety he has become accustomed to. Such a condition is not unknown among our alleged leaders in Washington. His rosy cheeks did not come from the first blush of youth, that's for sure.

He's a weasel and a parasite. As a resident of North Carolina (although not, thank God, of Etheridge's district) I consider him a disgrace. His defeat in November will be a breath of fresh air, even if he is replaced by a can of pickled herring.

Wow. open season? what does that mean? you are a terrible person.

there is nothing private about walking down the street. in an era where politicians don't need to answer questions they down' want to at press confrences, the only way to get answers is by ambushing them in public.

that D-bag politician should serve a week or two for that one. that was bullshit and I would have been a lil more assertive :)

Oh, just have a good cry about it, why don't you? I never said the Congressman should rough up the kid. But the kid obviously has this opinion that he can ambush anyone he doesn't like in order to try to take him/her down (which he's doing quite well here - LOL). Yet he lacks the balls to show his own face? If he really wants to be a serious journalist, he's going to have to learn a little professionalism. As I said before, this is paparazzi journalism. Let's report on a real story, not act lik an asshole in hopes that somebody will act the same way and you can put them on Youtube. He might make the "news" but I hope his prof gives him a big fat F.

This is my point. When you have a politician who shouldn't be in such a highly respected position, you should try to get him out because of his record. This reality TV type of ambush sucks and is as unprofessional as the politician himself.

It's good to know we've got folks with a backbone, who demand concise answers to naive, unschooled, simplistic questions.

So to skip the "jibberish":

Should we bomb the shit out of Iran?

Yes or no. Mean what you say and say what you mean.

:goldlaugh:

To skip the jibberish, "I do not have a comment at this time as I would need to review in detail what threat Iran poses".

Easy peazy, nice and easy.

But seriously, "No, I do not believe that at this time the Iranian government poses a significant threat; we will keep a watchful eye if there should be a threat".
................................

What if that had been the question posed to Etheridge?
Would some level of equivocation be acceptable in that case?
And, Supreme Arbiter of Yes/No-ness, I presume that an
acceptable answer to the actual question would have been

"Yes, I do. I'm a spineless lackey with no capacity for
independent action, who does what Nancy Pelosi tells me.
Thank you for capturing this reality on video."

Oh and by the way - the suggestion of calling his office would also work if the kid asked about bombing Iran.
