And I'm a weird bird. Classic geek/nerd type. I truly have a photographic memory. Ever since I was a kid, I could "take a picture" with my mind, and then "call up the page" and read it like a book, scroll up and down, study it, etc. I was 30 years old before I realized other people couldn't do that. I got the same score and I don't have a photographic memory. I have what a friend of mine calls a selectively eidetic memory lol. If it interests me, I'll remember every detail of it. But it's not an image in my head, it's just details. |

However, the test failed to take into account my disdain for people who make a practice of being overly sociable because they think it will cover up their shortcomings, and the modern devaluation of what used to be considered to be an advantage, a long attention span. Today, if you're able to concentrate on something for a long time, you're a freak. |

Dr. House User ID: 1281930 United States 04/13/2011 08:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I tested at 37. Back when I was a kid you had two types of kids. Retarded and Not retarded. Back then 'retarded' was not a 'bad word' it was just a fact of life. Since I was functioning and even brilliant in my studies, I was not considered 'retarded'. Of course my social skills had much room for improvement. on my report card 'Does not get along well with others' was the yearly chant of my teachers. Since I am over 65 years of age now its a little too late to 'do something' about something folk didn't even know existed back then. However 20/20 hindsight things become much clearer and make a lot more sense in light of where I possibly could be. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1334212 United States 04/13/2011 09:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | AH hemmm... Ok first of all yes some people really have these conditions that are truly outside the "normal" spectrum of human interaction and can make their lives difficult... BUT, I truly believe most NORMAL people prefer to be in small close knit groups of people they KNOW!! Seriously this pisses me off! Think of human evolution? Who did we interact with? People we know. And how? In comfortable familial or tribal situations.. Ok so really it's the ultra sociable people that want to make all the "normal" people feel weird or less than. I won't judge them or what that means BUT it's not normal relative to the majority of HUMANS. TV is not real! Thats why we watch. It's watching how the ultra-social deviants conduct their lives. And it's fascinating. Cuz to most of us it makes no sense. It's like studying a foreign culture. Anyway... Is it normal to walk into a commercial building with dozens or hundreds of random strangers. Is this a "comfortable" situation for most people? FUK NO!! Thats why everyone has to get DRUNK at such places to NUMB themselves to the chaotic energy surrounding them... Think about it... Don't let "them" define what is normal or acceptable... We are not livestock to be corraled and made obedient PS I have spent plenty of time being social and passing for "normal". Drinking partying etc But I was faking; completely. How many others are doing the same |

Quoting: CinD(much snipped) "If not forcibly engaged, these children spend their waking hours in trancelike states, staring at lights, rocking, making high-pitched squeaks, and flapping their hands, repetitively stimulating ("stimming") their miswired nervous systems." My youngest son constantly flaps his hands when he's excited, now I'm wondering if he might have this to some degree. |
