Any Gas Mask, Benzen protection tips for a Floridian?

Activated Carbon filters.They do have a shorter life when exposed to higher levels of VOC'S.Filters are usually expensive when you buy singles.MSA has case lots cheaper.
The biggest thing people need to remember is when you buy gas masks you need to fit test them and NO FACIAL HAIR.

benzene like many VOC's can be absorbed through the skin and effect the central nervous system. you don't have to breath it to die.

Relax, first of all...benzene isn't going to kill you. I had a chemistry professor in college that said he used to wash glassware in benzene because it was such a good solvent, and he was a smoker and in his 50s at the time, and that was...jeez..20 years ago! Yes, chronic exposure to benzene can cause leukemia and death....NO...benzene fumes wafting off the ocean will not kill you. Immediately, anyways. $0 years from now?....maybe

Indeed, benzene was used in hair products, aerosol crap, and paint for many years. It WILL eventually kill you though. Also, I have no idea what parts per million I will eventually be breathing...
I'm not ready to bug out yet. I make a living off of tourism here in South Florida. I know my days are numbered. But most of the sheeple don't really get it. So I will stick around, make as much dough as I can, and high tail it out of here if TSHTF.

wonder if NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) mask can take out Benzen or VOC? I would guess yes, but donno. NBC masks are relatively cheap.

benzene won't kill you quick. It used to be common in all kinds of products.
Common cheap military surplus gas masks should protect against any serious concentrations of benzene.

i have many NBC full face masks but purchased them for nuclear event. didn't anticipate this disaster.

There was some info on a thread last night where a fellow said he had been exposed to benzene and was told to take charcoal tablets to remove it from his system.

I'm retired military...yes FIT TEST THEM...shave your beard if you have one...the idea practice as best as i can describe it is to put it on...tighten up the straps and (while in clean air) breathe deeply and then close the ventilation (exhale port) and let that air out via the sides of your cheeks....damn...i didnt log in...I'm WHODAT on regular log in....hope that helps.

you need to make sure that you exhale out the mask via your cheeks to ensure that your mask is sealed....facial hair kills the masks ability to seal to your skin.
