I don't know how well zeolite will help. Benzene is a completely neutral molecule. It's the god dam SHAPE of it that allows it to fit anywhere. Zeolite is an electro-positive. I don't know how well this will interact with benzene. Sound's like a way too easy fix for the pill poppers of America.

Non-clumping cat litter is often made of zeolite or diatomite.

I can just eat some of my cats litter.

Don't be fucking stupid. Zeolite for human consumption in supplement form is NOT the same form or grade of zeolite. And the supplement form is the best protection I know of from chem like benzene.

The problem with buying military surplus or questionable crap from eBay is that quite often the masks show evidence of dry rot, or the filters are well past their expiration date. In both cases you're throwing money away for a false sense of security and could be risking your life.

Buy only new masks and sealed filters with known manufacturing dates from reputable distributors.

The best mask available nowadays is arguably the MSA Millennium with CBRN filters. The Millennium has a full face shield for unobstructed field of view (as opposed to masks with eye holes which are like looking through toilet paper tubes), and you can attach the filter to either the right or left side so that you can get a proper cheek-weld on your rifle or shotgun. Any gas mask with a filter coming straight out the front is going to get you in trouble if you need to shoulder a firearm.

The CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear) filters will protect you from anything that you're likely to come up against, including the nuke option if they decide to use it in the Gulf.

Buy once, cry once. Don't trust your life to crap gear.

This is incorrect. You must cover the filter intake holes as you inhale and make sure the mask presses in on your face. This verifies that the only way air can enter the mask when you breath is through the filter canisters. However, it is correct that facial hair will greatly reduce the seal between the mask and your skin.

Another good benzene protection tip is to stop using ordinary pump gas in lawnmowers, chainsaws, string trimmers etc. Lots of benzene in the exhaust gas, which is greatly reduced by using alkylate petrol instead (brands like Aspen).
