It seems to have stopped now. How is that possible?

The pressure builds up forcing the crack open enough to allow some to vent out , as the venting occurs it reduces the pressure allowing the crack to seal itself again , rinse wash reapeat

Junk and debris in the oil. The seeping is probably through a tight crack. It will find another path eventually, things like this always do.

These pressures are higher then that found in the combustion stage of an internal combustion engine. And I happen to know a crack so small that is not seen with the naked eye can leak pressure and exhaust fumes.

The pressure of the oil will eventually open it up.

Maybe BP is showing you this minor crack, and not showing the bigger ones. I can't trust them or their public relations program.

That crack looks like its a pretty big crack..

The oil floating by looks like it might be seeping from the right offscreen to this camera

I don't trust BP. If they are showing us a crack it's likely for future PR purposes. Wouldn't it benefit them to show us a crack with small amounts of oil coming out? After all, that is a natural thing in the gulf. When they have to admit the seafloor is really leaking then wouldn't they want a small leak all over the news?

How many other cracks/fissures are down there? Do you think they're all this small? I doubt it.

Whats the water temp at gulf water right now? Its that normal for this time of the tear?

Found this article this morning on the Permian–Triassic extinction event. Please go to paragraph 2 and you will see that it was suggested that it was caused partially by "sudden release of methane hydrates from the sea floor".

Are you sure it didn't have something to do with the dispersant? The monitor indicates that this ROV is on dispersant duty.
