What part of "Turn The Other Cheek" Do "Christians" Not Understand?
Someone please explain this to me. Thank you.

In the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus says:
You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
—Matthew 5:38-42, NIV

A parallel version is offered in the Sermon on the Plain in the Gospel of Luke:
But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.
—Luke 6:27-31. NIV

I've heard there is an acient tradition, in the middle east that if someone slaps your cheek, that you are supposed to offer the other cheek as a dare. If this tradition is infact that old... Then I'm sure Jesus was well aware of it.

that "tradition" is not in the bible, so you would have to ask a moose limb about it.

I think Jesus' teachings were deeper than "dares"!

What Jesus meant was that people can only connect with the higher if they let go of their egos. This act would mean that we would have to become conscious enough to not react with our egos and not automatically defend our egos.

When someone attacks you they are attacking your ego. No one can touch the divine soul in you, not even the devil!

The devil can get ahold of your ego or your mind, but it can never get ahold of the real you, your divine soul.

Here's a question for you OP... Why did Peter have a sword in the first place to chop off the ear of the guard in the garden?

If it were not allowed by Jesus, I don't think Peter would have had one.

What's to explain? It's pretty clear. We just ignore it because forfeit is for "losers", and we're blood-bought glory-bound WINNERS!!

Being an American does not mean you are automatically a Christian...

I am a Christian. I am against all of the current Endless Wars.

I do believe in self-defense... Turning the other cheek could defuse minor situations...but if you are being punched in the face or being robbed, etc . then you can bet I will be exercising my 2nd Amendment Rights

After your done working that one out... Maybe you could explain what Jesus ment in Luke 22:36 when He said:
"He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one".

I got your other cheek right here:

butt

Slap that.

This sermon is for Christians. Have you ever seen a video of someone robbing a gas station? If some evil doer has a gun to your head, you give them the money, and the solar powered keychains, and the candy bars. Karma will catch up with the robbers, the Lord will have revenge on them.

That is why it is good to pray for the evil doers, because God is a very ...thorough... God, in case you haven't seen that Old Testament.

You may also read the sermon on the mount like this: give a man enough rope to hang himself with his own actions against you.

This is advice against evil doers, not the general public to make Christians into cash machines.

Jesus may have allowed Peter to have the sword so that Peter can be tested and see if he follows the wisdom of his master.

He obviously didn't.

Well obviously it didn't work, because 99.99% of people on Earth cannot abide by this teaching. All they can do is hate, take revenge and kill.

Well neither you nor I could prove what Jesus meant by allowing Peter to have the sword, so don't bring it up unless you can show me a passage where Jesus tells Peter that he should carry the sword and lop off an ear with it, until then stick to what Jesus said, not what his disciples did, after all one of them, Judas betrayed him.

Nice try! The problem with your theory is that people are put into slavery using things that are easy for them to do, like kill, take revenge and hate. Turning the other cheek takes a very high consciousness to do.

So, good try, but no cigar.

Jesus sternly tells Peter to put away his sword, "No more of this!" and then he heals the servant, restoring his ear (Luke 22:49-51).
