Even if the relief well works, won't it take YEARS to drain out enough pressure to stop the leaking well? | |

Even if the relief well works, won't it take YEARS to drain out enough pressure to stop the leaking well? They'll have to suck billions of barrels out to reduce the pressure enough. For example, suppose they can suck 200,000 barrels a day from the relief well. It would take 5000 days to suck out 1 billion barrels. That's almost 15 years!! They've got 2 relief wells, so if they can get 200000 barrels per day from both wells, it would still take over 6 years to remove 1 billion barrels. * how much oil is in the deposit? * how much oil do they have to remove to reduce the pressure enough to stop the leak? * how long will it take to suck out that much oil? ouch |
