since we barely have enough fresh men to fight our current wars-what are the chances of a draft?-since I doubt you will find too many willing volunteers after being burned once by the lies that got us into Iraq...and what with the possibility of nukes
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1014955

the draft option is on the table. to keep our family "insulated" i pretty much am requiring that my oldest kids stay in college, so we can prove they are fulltime students, which would put them last in line...

Re: Military Operations to begin in July 2010 (within the next 30 days)
Iran could probably have about 1 million troops in its armed forces. How big is the 101 Airborne Division?

20K troops total.

they would not be used to take on the nation, they would be used to secure airports, and other points of entry. simply because they could/would be able to move fastest than any other unit, once they are on the ground.

Take airports? And then what, fly in the rest of the troops? Hasn't Iran got lots of surface-to-air missiles and other air defences? A lot of planes could be lots trying to get to the airport.

Maybe it'd be better to SEND IN THE MARINES!!! Take a SEA PORT!!

yes, without a doubt, the sea ports would be prime points of entry that would have to secured as well.

and yes, iran does have a lot of anti-air assets; but they would be destroyed before the division could insert...

and yes, the corp is there just offshore ready for insertion as well...
 Quoting: 82ndAirborneSniper

I'm trying to understand...are you seriously discussing invading Iran now?! The USSA invaded Iraq, Afghanistan, is causing havoc in Pakistan and now you 'americans' want to plunder & pillage one more sovereign nation, one more ancient civilization, one more nation that has done nothing to you except it possesses natural resources you want?!

Tell me you jest. Please.

okay...again...i am not in support of war, much less a war with iran - i understand the consequences it will have on the nation, the world, and my family...

i am compiling the events that have occurred in the past six months that leads me to believe, that although regardless of how fruitless i know an engagement with iran will be, it appears that it is still going to happen.

Not so good source actually, Saudi has denied claims it has opened it's airspace to Israel and if thats a lot of bull the rest of your info is suspect as well.

If the US really is planning to strike another country who poses no threat to them then I hope like hell that the oil in the gulf causes a shitload of damage to US property and people, hell it's only fair. Good luck looking for sympathetic ears when your own soil is being contaminated, just be thankful it's not depleted uranium and that your country is big enough to cope with an internal migration. Iraqis weren't so lucky.

In the first Gulf War, Saudi opened up all of their borders, airbases, and even the King's Resorts (did you know that?), for America to use, while protecting their (The Royal Family's) oil fields from invasion.

I was one of the pathfinders first on the ground in August of 1990, and found that the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia is one of our STRONGEST allies in the world. (do you really think they are going to admit opening airspace for military use, until after the mission is a success?)

To your second point, i can feel your pain and anger, and i compassionately understand it. The only difference on the battlefield between soldiers, from one side to another, are only the orders they are given. Having met many officers of our vanquished opposing forces, I must say that the level of compassion that I feel for my fellow mankind is enlightening...do you understand?

by arab countries you mean western funded and supported arab regimes?.
do bear in mind there may be the odd oil sheik or 5 willing to bend to some arm twisting but there are scant few arab population that are belligerent to Iran and not many arab princes are overly willing to enter the fray.

If the saudis do so much as even allow satan's minions an air corridor to attack a muslim country without a bloody good reason then they are also going to have to make rapid plans to exfil the peninsular during an full scale citizens revolt.

(and ask yourselves just one question) re basing and flyover rights Seriously how many countries are going to be willing to allow such an assault when it will mean them having to deal with the consequences of multiple chernobyls on their doorstep.

i truly hope it is saber rattling...but diego garcia, b2's and massive ordinance bombs, would be a prelude to any tactical nuclear engagement. hopefully the mission will not call for this contingency, but have no doubt, i am sure we have it within the operations order now...but it is very likely that with the right concentrated use of overwhelming firepower, tactics, and psychological operations, will be enough to topple the regime, with minimal damage to the people of iran, and to the world.

It's long since established fact that the bush administration provided false intel claiming that saddam was massing on the border in preparation to attack the saudis (and bear in mind saddam was already something of a cypher to the saudis given he was strongly secular and had just ran armed brigades all over the saudi's cousins in Kuwait).

also the consequences of the Iraq assault was only ever going to be limited to the occasional scud raining down on military basing areas.

A weaponised assault on active nuclear facilities will inevitably release billions of curies of radioactive material into the atmosphere which as sure as did Chernobyl will contaminate vast swathes of the region. Additionally the Iranians are far more intergrated and influential in the regional communities than the Iraqis ever were.

Such an assault will light a fire under the gulf like no other before or since.

it risks (by demonstrating brazenly the puppets policies) fermenting grass roots coups against every regional western allied regime. egypt, lebanon, Saudi, UAE, yemen, Oman, Jordan, pakistan, hell even Indonesia, basically every piece on the board would be up for grabs.

it's likely "commo from third party sources"

datetime in military terms is transmitted in the following datetime format:

201007040004

translated: July 4th, 2010 at 0400 hours

if i saw or heard that datetime format...i would be concerned.

most communications are sent via encrypted transmission though, and that that is not, one would have to be within a few kilometers of the sender to receive (ie on a training base deep within the areas used for real world mission rehearsals and training).

of course against a common sense view of such developments as mere sabre rattling" we all have to factor in the mental machinations of your typical US/Israeli politician.

It would certainly take a administratively piss poor handled oil spill off the front pages.

i agree that containing the military's command and control structure would be key to minimizing collateral damage, and again that we would absolutely have to have leaders ready to fill the power vacuum, as quickly as possible, to stabilize the region, for everyone's sake - that's everyone.

i really honestly think it's not military...if anything you may be picking up chatter from elsewhere. my suggestion to you is to call your AFB and ask to speak with the "headquarter's element" (ask by that term). once you make contact, explain the situation, and they will guide you from there.

create an emergency plan; have extra food and necessities at home; plan out how you and your family will link up; get to know your neighbors and each other around you. if the stuff really hits the fan, each other is really all we're going to have.

all those arab contries really do hate persia

by arab countries you mean western funded and supported arab regimes?.
do bear in mind there may be the odd oil sheik or 5 willing to bend to some arm twisting but there are scant few arab population that are belligerent to Iran and not many arab princes are overly willing to enter the fray.

If the saudis do so much as even allow satan's minions an air corridor to attack a muslim country without a bloody good reason then they are also going to have to make rapid plans to exfil the peninsular during an full scale citizens revolt.

(and ask yourselves just one question) re basing and flyover rights Seriously how many countries are going to be willing to allow such an assault when it will mean them having to deal with the consequences of multiple chernobyls on their doorstep.

sometimes folks, sabre rattling is just exactly that.

i truly hope it is saber rattling...but diego garcia, b2's and massive ordinance bombs, would be a prelude to any tactical nuclear engagement. hopefully the mission will not call for this contingency, but have no doubt, i am sure we have it within the operations order now...but it is very likely that with the right concentrated use of overwhelming firepower, tactics, and psychological operations, will be enough to topple the regime, with minimal damage to the people of iran, and to the world.

well what happen when some country kills a china or ruddian army man in iran?
they are all allys, even if people don't remember them
join and working on make an economic bloc,
wich is the reason all the uber 1st world rich dood want to
fight over iran.

i do not know what will happen. i can only base on history, when we had collateral damage with allies, we had to reciprocate with sincere apologies and reimbursement for the families affected...
