You have a hell of a time even finding decent jobs to apply to in the first place. Then these companies are refusing to hire you on the basis that you don't have a job! And now congress is cutting off unemployment for millions of people. Just wait, as they fall off the unemployment rolls, to the tune of about 200 thousand a week, we will start seeing news articles saying how unemployment is down. It's just crazy. Unemployment is not down, it up and people are still losing jobs. With the loss of further unemployment benefits the economy is going to get even worse because now all those people will not be paying their bills and supporting the economy with that money. So it's going to get very ugly, very soon. |

The Dems introduced a bill that funded lots of state government jobs as well as extending unemployment insurance. The Reps offered an amendment to make it simply an unemployment insurance bill, stripping out the spending for state government jobs. The Dems refused the amendment. If it got to the floor, I expect a pure extension of unemployment benefits could pass 100 - 0. Nobody would dare vote against it. But the Dems don't want that to happen without also funding their pet stuff. Unemployed white males are Rep voters. State govt employees are Dem voters. This is why, I guess. |
