I think they are fooling with a multitude of different bacteria.... sort of like microbe roulette. Many articles talk of oil eaters but never fully tell which specific ones are being manipulated. Here are some more...

This article is from August, and the samples were collected between may and june.

Newly-Discovered Species of Bacteria Claimed to be Breaking Down Oil in Deepwater Plumes in the Gulf
Good News for a Change, Or More Faulty Science?

by Washington's Blog

This discovery is especially important given that a leading expert on oil-eating microbes - Dr. David Valentine - failed to find any of the leading known oil-eating bacteria in the deepwater plumes.
Many well-known bacteria - such as Salmonella, Yersinia (plague), Vibrio (cholera), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (lung infections in hospitalised or cystic fibrosis patients) and E. coli (food poisoning), as well as a number of geothermic ocean vent dwellers which eat methane or hydrogen sulfide - are members of the Gammaproteobacteria class of microbes. The scientists found a BP oil-eating species within that broader class of bacteria.

The dominant microbe in the oil plume is a new species, closely related to members of Oceanospirillales family, particularly Oleispirea antarctica and Oceaniserpentilla haliotis.

Thanks, Mother Nature! Bacteria devour oil from Gulf of Mexico spill

july 2010

To understand the process, American microbiologists have isolated the bacteria which can degrade the oil. John Coates and his team from the Southern Illinois University showed that two strains (RCB and JJ) break down the benzene molecules, and even need the pollutants perchlorate or nitrate to digest them.

Don't forget this, our first smoking gun.

Gulf of Mexico: Bio-engineered Bacteria Now Eating People

The BP/Synthetic Genomics alliance was centered on developing new micro-organisms with lab created genomes (synthetic DNA) to improve the outflow of gas and oil reservoirs. That alliance was publicly announced on June 13, 2007. As to what prior date the actual agreement was made is a corporate privacy matter.

However, less than two weeks before the public announcement, on May 31, 2007, US Patent application number 20070122826 was published claiming exclusive ownership of a set of essential genes and a synthetic "free-living organism that can grow and replicate" that is made using those genes. An international patent application at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO number WO2007047148, published April 27, 2007) names more than 100 countries where it may seek monopoly patents. (4)

The company that applied for the patents was the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI), a non-profit company founded by genetic scientist J. Craig Venter who also founded Synthetic Genomics, BP’s business alliance partner. Both are based in Rockville, Maryland. By no mere coincidence, Synthetic Genomics Inc. sponsors (pays for) fundamental research at JCVI. (1) Since BP has a developmental and research deal as well as an undisclosed amount of equitable stock ownership with Synthetic Genomics, it’s obvious who’s paying for the synthetic genetic research and results at JCVI.

did anyone ever look up those patents?

I know this is off topic:
Real Estate Listing:>Listing Zusammenfassung: €1600 pro Monat möbliertes Zimmer zur Miete in 1 Schlafzimmer 1 Bad Wohnung zur Miete in Landstuhl, Kaiserslautern, Rheinland-Pfalz, Gate 1/2/4, Downtown Landstuhl. Geschrieben von Immobilien Manager.

What it says... €1600 ($2320) furnished room for rent in 1 bedroom 1 bath Apartment for rent in Landstuhl, Rheinland.
This is for like a Futon in a dungeon.
I get fed up with USA sometimes but for decent housing it is pretty good.
I may just turn this into a 3 day vacation/family visit secure in the knowledge that I have helped make Lufthansa German Airlines even richer.
Greetings from Germany...Open 9-5 Monday thru Friday.
Sorry about the sidetrack, now back to your regularly scheduled topic.

Lufthansa is one of the better airlines I have been on but there is still TSA to deal with at Sea-Tac. I have been on flights (Aeroflot) where the pilots drank a bottle of vodka before takeoff. For decent housing in Europe Holland seems to be the hands down winner. In a couple of months when my checkbook recovers I may make Lufthansa richer and see what is available there. I know just from reading ads cost of living is high in Berlin and München.

Hi Bevvy and others...

re the Bacteria, this reminds me very much of the novel by Greg Bear - 'Darwin's Radio', where he talks about how bacteria and change bring in a new species of human.

The Wiki summary is very good [link to en.wikipedia.org]

Our DNA is mostly made up of foreign bacteria and viruses, what had been pathogens that decided to hitch a ride with us.

Remember, any pathogen that kills it's host is a failure - how is it going to keep on living and surviving? All predators MUST work in with their prey, get into balance, so both survive.

And when we think, we have 46 chromosones, we need to look at other species and see how many they have - Chimps 48, Cow - 60, Dog - 78, Elephant - 56, Horse - 64, etc..
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

It sort of goes along with the theory that somewhere along the way, we've had some talken out and/or altered....

Out there Hans ~ was that to keep the pilots blood flowing at high altitiude or to give them some 'Dutch' courage?

Nice arrow Woody ~ take someone a long time to draw that, with or without a bow... who's the 'Archer'?

Another vessel struck down by a 'complete loss of electrical power'... who pushes the button?

A mystery missile ~ no it's a plane ~ no it's a... (still not convinced but if Astronut's observations are valid it's on it's 69th orbit about now ... I'll poke my nose out later)... who pushed that button?

Obama's gone to great efforts but looks 'dejected', didn't make some headway? Couldn't borrow anything substantial? Got a lesson in 'Face' from our FE's in China? No prizes for who's button got 'pushed'.

Loved the one about us having DNA made from virii and bacteria ~ maybe we'll end up 'assimilating' the Synthia and self-replicating without a partner... new meaning to GFYS... more politely, great example of how any host consuming organism eat's itself to extinction... if there's some nasty bug in our oil/sea now, starvation and or suffocation would have to be the primary control method I'd have thought ~ sounds more convincing than an 'empirical calibrator' anyway... someone push my 'off' button...!

Cheers!

When I lived here and worked for Daimler-Benz, I would cruise most of the length of Germany from Stuttgart to Netherlands border at just under 250 km (150 mph) Then I got to Holland where they have speed limits. And Radar. If you ever go to Holland, notice the smooth roads and the park like surroundings, well trimmed grass, greenery all over. Hans helped pay for all that with fines.
Then I got to supplier. Old guy in charge of lab liked to remind me that Germans came into Eindhoven in WWII and stole everybody's bikes. And after the peace they never gave them back.

Mud, I can't look at that. That's true horror for me, true confirmation that we're an irresponsible arrogant race that needs to be curbed for the good of all around us.

If a bunch of aliens / higher intelligences comes along and curbs us, we had it coming. Nobody can argue against the justice of that, the evidence is literally overwhelming.

<snip>
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1086360

Aye but that's the rub, from all the intel it seems it is alien desires mixed with human psychopaths greed, (truly a species within a species) that are the cause of all that ails us as a race. When I first tried to understand what was wrong with people the above idea I considered ridiculous. Now I am convinced that there is more truth in that than anything else. We are being conned into handing over our world willingly by every means imaginable, we are being programmed via all forms of media.

Fear is the primary driver but the feelings you have expressed are exactly what they want. For us to give up blaming ourselves for their deeds which they see as fair because to them we are stupid sheep, a lesser being because we care, we have empathy and a conscience. These they see as weaknesses and they truly do not understand them. For them everything is about them.

We have the choice to reject their ambitions for us or accept them, they are pushing hard for the latter. I for one do not accept this. Organisations like oil industry are run with only one basic motive, to obtain power. This is done through the control of money. We are approaching a time when the ruling psychopaths will be desperately vying for the number one spot. The first ruler of Earth. That is the prize and the race is on all around us. Think of the Highlander movie, that depicts their end game and we are the prize.

Don't think so? Search for info on psychopaths and then look at how companies like these operate. Remember that a company operates from the top down. :-Mud

Schizophrenia caused by virus that embedded itself in human DNA 60 million years ago

[link to discovermagazine.com]

"In the past few years, geneticists have pieced together an account of how Perron’s retrovirus entered our DNA. Sixty million years ago, a lemurlike animal—an early ancestor of humans and monkeys—contracted an infection. It may not have made the lemur ill, but the retrovirus spread into the animal’s testes (or perhaps its ovaries), and once there, it struck the jackpot: It slipped inside one of the rare germ line cells that produce sperm and eggs. When the lemur reproduced, that retrovirus rode into the next generation aboard the lucky sperm and then moved on from generation to generation, nestled in the DNA. “It’s a rare, random event,” says Robert Belshaw, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Oxford in England. “Over the last 100 million years, there have been only maybe 50 times when a retrovirus has gotten into our genome and proliferated."
