AC Canada, I have not been able to stop thinking about what you said above. It's fascinating stuff, and as I said before, really rings true with me. The ICE plays an vital part in all this. (especially the cold)

Pak-India talks on 22nd

ISLAMABAD: Top Pakistani and Indian defence officials would reopen stalled talks on the world’s highest battlefield - Siachen - in yet another attempt to demilitarise the area.

The defence secretaries of both the South Asian countries will be meeting on April 22 to resume talks on the Siachen glacier and Sir Creek,” a senior official told The News on Saturday.

It strikes me that the polar ice caps, and polar regions in general, do interesting things for our World, a part from being the axis we turn on, but other things like our magnetosphere springing forth from these points.

...
 Quoting: BadHairDay

When the ice melts at the poles the earths crust shifts like a ball within a ball.
Earths crust is an independent piece of skin like a peel is on an orange. Like a scab on your knee.

It can slip around on the planet independently of the planet itself.
Ice at either end was keeping it stable....without that we are preparing to slip.

If we could stop fossil fuel use immediately and quickly plant many trees and incorporate ways to cool the planet off there is (I have to think) a likelihood of changing our current path toward slippage....and inclement weather, to critically understate the danger

We are really just like a terrarium floating through an inhospitable space in the universe.
Without the bowl of atmosphere...we will die out.

So it is in our best interest to cool it.
Water it.
Fertilize it.
OR
MOTHER EARTH is going to plow under our little tiny bodies as fertilizer for a new world of smarter people.

Unfortunately all our records will have been destroyed and they will have to start again from scratch.

If you are American you must be outraged that OIL COMPANIES are afforded a tax break which always results in a cost to the taxpayer. And yet they get away with (what amounts to murdr) bad faith practices.
You, after all, as a taxpayer and resident, are paying the money that goes to them in the form of an incentive to do what they are doing. Just to drill at all, we are giving them a tax break.
We individuals pay more (%) than they do. They get a BREAK.

Yet the prices of this gas, (our own natural resource) keep raising at the pumps.
Oil Companies are making record, windfall profits.
Our earth is partially destroyed and we see dead and dying animals, fish, plant & wild life, eco system & shoreline everyday.

This is our shoreline, our ocean, our oil.
You would not let someone steal from your basement.

Why do we let them take it, pollute our world and sell it back to us at exorbitant prices????

It doesn't make sense.

I have no great love for Sarah Palin.
But the woman was smart enough to know the oil in Alaska belonged to THE ALASKANS and she fought for their propriety rights to own it.

WIKI: [link to en.wikipedia.org]

The Siachen Glacier lies immediately south of the great watershed that separates China from the Indian subcontinent in the extensively glaciated portion of the Karakoram that is sometimes called the "Third Pole." The glacier lies between the Saltoro Ridge immediately to the west and the main Karakoram range to the east. The Saltoro Ridge originates in the north from the Sia Kangri peak on the China border in the Karakoram range. The crest of the Saltoro Ridge's altitudes range from 5,450 to 7,720 m (17,880 to 25,330 feet). The major passes on this ridge are, from north to south, Sia La at 5,589 m (18,336 ft), Bilafond La at 5,450 m (17,880 ft), and Gyong La at 5,689 m (18,665 ft) The average winter snowfall is 10.5 m (35 ft) and temperatures can dip to - 50 °C (- 58 °F). Including all tributary glaciers, the Siachen Glacier system covers about 700 km2 (270 sq mi).

The Siachen Glacier boasts the world's highest helipad, built by India. The world's highest battlefield is also located on the glacier at a height of 21,000 feet (6400 m) above the sea level.[6] GSM mobile service was launched in 2009 near army base camp.[7]

Melting
Siachen glacier is a source to Nubra river which later joins Shyok river. The glacier's melting waters are the main source of the Nubra River in India Ladakh, which drains into the Shyok River. The Shyok in turn joins the Indus River; thus, the glacier is a major source of the Indus. Global warming has had one of its worst impacts here in the Himalayas with the glaciers melting at an unprecedented rate and monsoon rains now appearing north of the mountains. The volume of the glacier has been significantly reduced over recent decades. Military activity since 1984 has caused general environmental degradation on the glacier, and may be contributing in a relatively small degree to localized melting .[8]

>>> MzK : If they have control over this glacier, they have control over a lot of people !!!
Military activity contributed to local melting ????!?!?!?! What were they experimenting with ?????

Naming
The Siachen Glacier area is the smallest orange area."Sia" in the Balti language refers to the rose family plant widely dispersed in the region. "Chun" references any object found in abundance. Thus the name Siachen refers to a land with an abundance of roses.

>>> MzK : "a land with an abundance of roses" ... before it became a glacier ????? So what lies hidden under the ice and snow ????? Might it be so important to have the military wanting to control this area ... hmmmzzzz ... Interresting !

Sorry, but you are way off the on the Palin credit. Alaskans have ALWAYS known they have proprietary rights to the state's oil, plus they have ALWAYS gotten a "royalty" check every year. Some years ago, every adult Alaskan got a check for $1,800 each year. Dunno how much it is now.

The way Palin talks, it's hard to understand the point she is trying to make.

A person who wishes to remain anonymous revealed that between 2008 to 2009, an Internet group called “Harbor,” consisting of more than 240 AIDS-phobia patients, formed a tourist group to donate blood in big cities between Shenzhen and Shanghai. They attempted to spread the virus and increase the number of infected people so that the state would start to pay attention to the disease.

As these AIDS-phobia patients do not test positive for AIDS or any known infectious virus, they passed the blood test. Later, blood containing the unknown AIDS-phobia virus entered the blood supply. Lin Feng’s mother, who received infected blood in a blood transfusion at a hospital in Shanghai, spread the virus to her whole family, suggesting the Harbor movement has already had an impact.

That's just horrible. A guy was arrested for attempted murder here in OZ for knowingly having unprotected sex with women, whilst being HIV positive. Sparked great debate here over people's right to 'know'.

The word harbor stuck out in your wording Karu.

Safe harbor in Japan? Remember? - probably no dots there.

We are oh so used to bagging the US when it comes to overthrowing governments, which happen to have large oil deposits....

But how about the Ukraine?

Ukrainian oil output in Egypt expected to increase tenfold
English.news.cn 2011-04-04 23:30:24

KIEV, April 4 -- Ukraine will increase its oil production in Egypt tenfold in the following year starting from April, compared with the 12-month period from April 2010 to March 2011, according to data published Monday on the Ukrainian Ukrinform news agency website.

The agency quoted Ukrainian Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yury Boiko as saying that during the last marketing year Ukraine produced nearly 100,000 tons of oil in Egypt, adding the figure is estimated to be around 1 million tons in the following year.

Ukraine began its commercial oil production in Egypt in April 2010. It has developed 14 sources of oil and found 5 new ones. The total reserves of hydrocarbons at three of them are estimated at 10 million tons.

Ukraine extracts petroleum in Egypt according to an agreement between the Ukrainian national oil and gas company Naftogaz and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation signed in 2006.

High-technology cooperation to highlight Jia Qinglin's Australia visit: Chinese Ambassador

English.news.cn 2011-04-04 21:48:10 FeedbackPrintRSS

by Cao Yang, Vienna Ma

CANBERRA, April 4 -- Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Jia Qinglin will arrive in Perth on Tuesday to start his official and friendly visit in Australia. Chinese Ambassador to Australia Chen Yuming told Xinhua in a recent interview about the significance of the visit.

According to Chen, Jia is this year's most important Chinese political leader being sent to Australia for an official visit, and the trip will further deepen cooperation, as well as promote bilateral relations between the two nations.

Jia has last visited Australia 12 years ago, and Chen said the reciprocal visit to Australia reflects the value and expectations China has on the development of Sino-Australia relations.

During the visit, Jia will meet Australian Governor-General Quentin Bryce, Prime Minister Juila Gillard, Parliamentary leaders and other Australian leaders to exchange views on bilateral relations, as well as to discuss regional and international issues.

He will also meet leaders from business, technology, and education sectors, in a move to boost comprehensive Sino-Australia cooperative relations.

One of the highlights of the visit is to strengthen cooperation in high-technology, Chen told Xinhua, and Jia will visit a number of energy, communications and other research institutions during his trip to Australia.

Earlier, Chinese Science and Technology Minister Wan Gang and Vice Chairman of China's National Development and Reform Commission Xie Zhenhua have respectively visited Australia. The first Chinese-Australia climate change forum was also being held in Australia.

"Through these important visits, science, technology, resources and climate change cooperation between the two nations will be more specific and effective," Chen told Xinhua.

Earlier in March, Xie Zhenhua together with Australian Climate Change Minister Greg Combet said the two nations will forge stronger research and policy links to address climate change challenge.

Chen, who praised Australia's developed economy, rich resources, as well as its advanced science and technology, said China's 12th Five-Year Plan plan will release a huge investment and consumption demand, adding that it will provide further investment opportunities, expand mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations and to create more possibility for Australia to further develop its climate actions.

At the same time, Chen said China and Australia will continue to strengthen international cooperation on tackling climate change, and will provide further contributions to the global low-carbon development side-by-side.

On the current diplomatic relations between China and Australia, Chen said that the pair are both important countries in the Asia- Pacific region, with a wide range of common interests.

Having established the diplomatic relations for nearly 40 years, Chen said the two governments, together with the joint efforts of all sectors, have maintained a good development on bilateral relations, and such bilateral relations has brought tangible benefits to the people, and also maintained stability in the region.

"The Chinese government is looking forward for Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard to visit China," Chen said.

Chen concluded by saying that this year marks the "Year of China" being held in Australia, and he looks forward that the two countries will achieve more fruitful results in exchanging their culture.

THAT would be an amazing event! But I am finding it hard to corroborate the information anywhere?

There is the recent Space.com article on radio signals differing from norther to southern hemispheres on Saturn, but it does not go so far as the Chinese article.

The NASA lead in Gulfie's link is not listed on any NASA outlets that I am able to find. I have sent an email to one of their media managers to see what their take is on it.

Would be absolutely amazing if it panned out. Maybe they broke too early?

Re: Something Just Went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico. The US Navy just sunk a French Submarine
Interesting find by Gulfie via other sources,

THAT would be an amazing event! But I am finding it hard to corroborate the information anywhere?

There is the recent Space.com article on radio signals differing from norther to southern hemispheres on Saturn, but it does not go so far as the Chinese article.

The NASA lead in Gulfie's link is not listed on any NASA outlets that I am able to find. I have sent an email to one of their media managers to see what their take is on it.

Would be absolutely amazing if it panned out. Maybe they broke too early?

The Daily Galaxy spin on the Saturn signals story, is an April Fools Day joke, as you can see from the date they published the story. There was nothing in Xinghua about it either.

Good spot Nexed. Or...is it? Maybe the joke will be on them!

Certainly pays to read the readers comments below the message body! Reminds me of that 'test' where they say "please read in entirety before starting". Most people dont, and just get on with the test. Then they get to question 35, which says "ONLY do question 12".

Mind you, Saturn surely holds 'something' of interest. The Cassini mission has now been extended twice, all the way up to 2017.
