The telescope will be looking for neutrinos from the most violent astrophysical sources, such as star explosions, gamma ray bursts, and cataclysmic phenomena involving black holes and neutron stars. Neutrinos are the smallest known subatomic particles, which became a subject of research in the 1950s. Neutrinos travel at near the speed of light and are so tiny that they can usually pass through solid matter without colliding with atoms. The IceCube telescope will be equipped with some 5,000 Digital Optical Modules buried under the ice at depths of 1.4-2.5 km. (how do they place them there?) The modules will transmit experimental data for 25 years. |

Also, how many folk are the usual compliment for a sub? We now have 8 dead, 3 (I think) already transported off several days ago, so they are down 11 men? Anyone w/ experience in this area know if this is credible for sub operations? |

Territorial waters only extend to 12 miles from the shore, but the Exclusive Economic Zone extends to 200 miles. Apparently I am late to the game, this deep seabed mining issue has been around for decades and the UN has had conventions based solely on this issue. It all makes sense now though, why all the foreign ships in the Gulf, why Obama refused access... THEY KNOW WHAT IS UP. The other countries aren't fooled by this 'oil spill' and it also makes sense why they would use military to protect the site. The US and BP know they are deep shit for this. If it is a Class 212 sub (which by the way is pretty much the same sub that the French are using) it has a compliment of 27, 5 officers 22 enlisted. And the German version has an 'antimagnetic' hull.. Hmmm. From what I can gather, the metals used in the hull + travelling through seawater + earth's natural magnetic pull + propulsion system creates the magnetization of a sub.
