Just because I might admire the intelligence involved in writing that program, and feel it's pretty darned sophisticated....doesn't mean I admire those who set it into motion, or their ultimate intent....the fact that they could and did w/o detection is downright scary....and I wonder just what the target is...perhaps we are being misled about it being the nuke site in Iran...we are sure being pushed that way, but...how many systems are there worldwide that this worm will affect??? how about subs/aircraft carriers/weapons systems/satellites/ISS/commercial airliners/nuke sites worldwide/electrical systems/banking systems/deep sea oil drillers, or the internet itself...after all...how better to get contol of the internet, than to do it for "our protection"....

It's obvious that no one knows what all could be involved or end up being a target....and scarier still is that perhaps by the time those responsible are caught up with...the damage it caused will be irreversible.....there are always unknown unknowns...and those are the ones that cause the most trouble..perhaps it might even come back and bite those responsible right where it hurts the most...

Stuxnet is admirable in a perverse sort of way since it got through some of the better AV 's in the industry. Most of the worms and viruses can be/are written by a reasonably bright 12 year old and they walk right through Microsoft's alleged "security." Bill Gates should be hung from a lamppost by the feet and used as a piñata.

Understood. It's a sore spot for me much in the same way a medical professional would feel about those that spread biologicals as a weapon.

As for the worm damaging some of the areas you mention (ISS, satellites, etc), this does not appear to be the case. The worm targets a very specific hardware configuration, and is limited to Siemens PLCs -- such as those found in oil pipeline valves.

If you want something realistic to be concerned with, I'll leave you with this one: what other worm using the same Stuxnet design pattern is in the wild today? It was reported that Stuxnet was first identified in late spring, but is suspected to have been in the wild longer. Meaning, it remained undetected for quite awhile. So, is there another Stuxnet-like worm in the wild today that could impact the areas you mention? It's possible.

True, I can see that point. Worms can be more difficult to detect than viruses, which is why I'm not surprised AVs initially missed it. Now they know what to look for, so updates are being created by AV vendors.

Back in the 80s, PC viruses hit the scene in a big way and I had to create a memo to all users on precautions. Keep in mind this was the 80s. I was shocked at the people that called the bank pres. concerned they were going to catch this virus I was talking about.

So, on memo #2 (lol!) I explained why they did not have to fear for their personal health.

What is perversely admirable I suppose, is this worm has made the leap into the physical realm, with health and safety consequences we are only starting to contemplate as we witness movie fiction becoming all too real.

Can I have first crack at that piñata? chuckle

Re: Something Just Went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico. The US Navy just sunk a French Submarine
I'm going to be a bit dull and explain a bit more about PC malware. Viruses, worms, trojans are generally detected by anti-virus software via a unique "signature", that is to say, someone in the lab has analysed the thing and found something unique to identify it by. The trouble is, for quite some number of years, that they have often been coded to be polymorphic and to mutate, thus becoming undetectable once more.

The big thing nowadays is for anti-virus software to identify malicious stuff through a behavioural-based method. This means that, in the case of IBM's VM version for example, the a-v software maps the normal functions of the system, baselines it, if you like, and regards anything that does stuff that deviates from this landscape as suspect.

The problem with the behavioural approach is that it can generate a lot of "false positives" for legitimate software that behaves in some part like an infector, which is why such a technique is only becoming available commercially very slowly.

Horrors like the latest zbot and Stuxnet are "kitchen sink" malware, they try multiple infection vectors, are polymorphic, and (zbot) have multiple functions - zbot, for example, is a rootkit, runs a backdoor, runs an invisible (to the user) web server, and downloads as many further nasties (like keyloggers) as the writer wishes.

I'm using Linux at the moment... not immune from all of that crap, but a great deal better.

This place is a giggle.

"The message is clear"

So what's the message?

"Well....it could be blah blah, but then again it could be blub, blub. Either way the message is clear.

LMAO

The UVB-76 thread has become yet more silly nonsense (that's as always, just MHO)

I wonder why those darned cases gained and lost weight.

Would you open one of those diplomatic briefs? I should think they've been scanned to death by now, on the proviso there's any truth to the story.

solar metastasis

Would appreciate if you could please expain metastasis as you see it related to this.

To me, starting at the left, the off centered ball represents an unbalanced world, the earth. the second sphere represents the earth in an embryo state...a rebirth. That follows through the interstellar cloud to the third sphere showing the inner circle, the earth, in balance once again.

Just my take.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1116822

Hello all....

822 I like your view.
And Dhlos is also right I think.

My take would be :
part 1-The earth and the heliosphere ... at front always closer to the earth then at the other side.

part 2-Internal changes : Internal changes as well for the earth as for all life on it, it is splitting of cells (re-birth), related to the organisms awakening (re-birth), and related to the changing of the magnetic poles ... the flip (re-birth)... when 1 pole gets so weak like the south-pole has been for several years and is still declining .. the possibility of completely disappering is great > the missing piece in that circle is the missing pole which will result in multiple littler poles all around the earth. You could compare it with when all our chacra-point of our body would emit equal energy creating a more stabelised and harmaneous field. This could -on level of the earth- has to do with the earths chacra's opening up or with the stargates being activated all at once, which was told that would create a new crystaline energyfield around the earth ... ,

part 3- the gold is the cathaliser of the DNA alterations and adjustments which will lead to the adaption and evolution to a crystaline structure.
(the 2 balls next to the twisted chain, 1 for gold and 1 for crystaline)

part 4- This will lead to a new heliosphere ...
HELIOS = WHOLE = Balance!
Helios was the Greek god of the Sun and of Light, when we shine from-out all our chacra's we become the "radient"/"shining" Ones! We become a whole balance entity of light ourselves
A very powerfull centered grid and forcefield around the earth and around our (spiritual, phisycal and energetical) bodies ...
Just like the earth will have once all the chacra's /stargates are opened and working.
From a di-pole to Multi-poles to helio-poles!

Heliosynchrone

This will mean a "whole" "new" era for man and life ...
where Time and the world as we know it now will change (stop maya calendar). Time would not be our leader or guiding-line any more ... coz we will BE TIME ourselves.
Centered! ... and connected with All! .. all other suns, all other life, all dementions, all ...

Helios :
-The all-knowing
-the sun, the shining one, god of light

(sure Dhlos can add info to this ...lol..)

Super virus hits 6 million computers in China

BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Computer experts have warned that a "super" virus has attacked more than 6 million personal computers and almost 1,000 corporate computers in China.
The Stuxnet cyberworm can break into computers and steal private information, especially from industrial firms, sending it back to a server in the United States, said Wang Zhantao, an engineer at the Beijing-based Rising International Software Co. Ltd., a leading antivirus service producer in China.

------------------------------------------------------------

I am getting information that STUXNET is attacking and crippling China's vital military infrastructure, not just its consumer and industrial sector. Above is what China has admitted to publicly. Note that the Chinese state media is identifying America as the source. They are already starting to condition the Chinese people to believe America is the aggressor.

STUXNET is a military grade weapon - created by someone with the resources of a nation state. I am being told it is a 'quantum virus' - which means we can only analyse it when it 'surfaces' back into reality, and examine its shape and form.
I was surprised to see the OP of that UVB-76 thread state that STUXNET is a 'quantum virus' and not a normal virus. Quantum viruses were a big rumour years ago - and even the most imaginative researchers simply did not believe that it was physically possible.
As I said in a previous post, these things are given a target - which is any string of 'information'. Please think about this. It can theoretically be targeted at ANY 'information string' - including ORGANIC information strings. In theory it can locate the target anywhere in the universe, because it 'leaves' this reality, tunnels through some sort of hyperspace, and emerges back into physical reality at its targets. As the media reports are saying - you don't have to be linked to the internet to be infected. This virus will find its targets whether in submarines, secret underground bases, satellites - anywhere. What those researchers at Langner were looking at - was its 'form' as it emerged at its target.

Bear in mind also, that like the west - China has arrived at a critical point in terms of its economy. Over the last 20 years Europe and the USA closed down their factories, laid off all the workers, and shifted production and manufacture to China. Obviously the number of laid off workers grew and grew, and those people couldn't repay loans, but most importantly here, they stopped spending money on non-essentials. Meanwhile the number of factories in China went through the roof - China boomed. But now the west has run out of money as a result of moving factories to China, and now China's massive boom is busting. Every week thousands of Chinese factories are closing down. The unemployment numbers are staggering.

Already finance commentators on the evening TV are discussing whether or not there exists a defacto trade and currency war between the USA and China.

Whether this is all pre-arranged between China and the USA, or whether there has been some major change behind the scenes - I have reason to believe that the USA and its key allies are preparing, right now, for imminent open war with China. (I would like to say more but I cannot)

Right now is another one of those 'windows' when people should pray for peace, and/or send love and light to the world. In fact, taking into account - comets; secret Chinese briefcases; BIS system resets; solar flares and telephone poles - I'd keep praying until January 2nd, 2011.

peace

NEX' I have been refusing to get in to STUXN ET debate. I did not understand the true 'quantum meaning'.

They say that when the b#stards that built and tested the first A-bomb, they were not sure of it would ignite each and every atom on this planet, yet they still pressed the button.

If you are saying that STUXN ET can effect organic information, such as DNA, I dare say they were standing at that same cliff edge. What if it hits everything? Yet they pushed the return key.

I know we do bad things to each other, but surely "they" aren't human. I guess it all ties back in.

US passes legislation to curb China's currency manipulation
New Statesman, Published 30 September 2010

The US House of Representatives passed a bill on Wednesday aimed at tackling China's manipulation of the Yuan.

The Democrat-backed bill - which could eventually lead to trade sanctions on China -was passed by 348 to 79.

In order to become a law, the legislation needs to be passed by the US Senate and then be signed by the president. If passed, it would allow the US Commerce Department to impose duties on imports from countries that undervalue their currencies.

China has criticised the US move claiming that the bill breached World Trade Organisation rules.

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it "firmly opposed" approving the bill. Exercising protectionism severely damages the ties between the two nations and will have a negative impact on both the economies and the global economy, the ministry added.

President Obama said on Wednesday that the reason that the US is pushing China about their currency is because the currency is undervalued. "That's not the main reason for our trade imbalance but it's a contributing factor," Obama said.

I'm not buying into the "quantum virus" idea really, just sounds like a good excuse where people have been careless. The reality of quantum entanglement I'm happy with, fine, but there are caveats to "action at a distance" like the initial association of a quantum pair to start with. I don't see how that operates at the macro level, although in theory you could cascade quantum state events. In practice? You'd probably need zillions of paired RAM chips _and_ know exactly where they were located.

I don't see it.

Bill Gates is what he always has been ... a shark. He is not a great computer guru, he hires them. He also buys, or steals the best ideas and put them into play in a big way. For example, he did not create windows, he put windows on the mass market.

From the beginning of the Microsoft marketing phenomena, it has been strongly suggested that MS had federal financial backing, thus we get the "backdoors" in operating computers all over the world.

Bill Gates is probably meeting the terms of his contract.

Can I have first crack at that piñata? chuckle

So, we go on and on about viruses and infections, which are the same subjects we have in the Gulf.

Regardless of what Stuxnet is, or what it does, it is smudging the meaning and complexity of the issues of the Gulf.

It looks as if we are going to get as many smudge pots as it takes to get us away from the killing of the Gulf of Mexico.

Re: Something Just Went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico. The US Navy just sunk a French Submarine
Another possible death from Gulf seafood. One Atlanta woman died after eating raw oysters at an Atlanta restaurant in August.

Never eat oysters out of season, it doesn't make any difference where they come from!

"A woman who had consumed raw oysters from the Gulf of Mexico died from a Vibrio vulfificus infection.

Think again before sucking a raw oyster out of its shell.

Fulton County Health Department officials officially have linked the death of a 52-year-old woman to the bacteria, Vibrio vulnificus, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC). Scientists believe the contaminant was in raw oysters the woman fatally consumed at Spondivits Seafood and Steaks on Virginia Avenue in early August."
