Fellow Aussies, have any of you seen the new adverts for Australian Army? 'Under the Rising Sun' with the anzac/sunray symbol. Whoa, adds another spin to rising sun being Just Japan, how long has our army coined that phrase?

I always think its wierd when I see those ads. I'm anti-war, [PUTS ON FLAME SUIT] and dont even celebrate Anzac day, regardless of how much mateship etc they throw at it. It was stupid, and it was wrong, killing is wrong, war is wrong. In relation to the ad, the old timers are always going on about those damn Japs. The enemy. Now our army has their symbol. Hah! Rising Sun.

Pretty sure though that rising sun was explained as something to do with Japan.

But great BEZERK find. Was it NexEd that said, many wierd relationships and aliances will form, then be disbanded. Maybe this is the PR side of it? Get in early?!

JFTR - I like Japan.

For non OZ and NZrs, ANZAC (Australian and NZ Army Corps) is a big deal in OZ. Sad as all hell story. Lots of wasted life, twistd in to a courageous keep throwin cannon fodder at the guns till we get there British military blunder. The cannon fodder was OZ and NZ young guys. 1000's.

Actually the rising sun symbol has been a feature of our army for as long as I can remember. Look at the Badges worn on the diggers hats.

Spot on, Mud - the Rising Sun (with rays) is the Army symbol here in OZ. And we have been used as cannon fodder by first the Poms (British), and then later the Yanks (USA).

You see this going right back to the Boer war - Breaker Morant, and then Gallipoli and France. Later, the OZ troops were forbidden to fire on the Japs across the Straits of Malacca - the OZ troops had 25 pounder guns (about 5" - 125mm), zeroed in on the Jap high command, as it "Might antagonize them".

Then in the Islands, where the AIF (OZ troops) were used by the Yanks to clear out the Japs (not to mention the Coast Watchers in the Solomons).

In Korea, Vietnam, and now Iraq, it has been the same, a force of 10,000 yanks get their ass's wipped, so in come a few hundred Diggers - all fixed.

Just to clarify my understanding:

KremPM = KremlinPresidentMedvedev
KremPP = KremlinPrimeministerPutin
Crescent Moon = the DED name/ID for a surface vessel owned/run by one or more Islamic nations


Medvedev is rising in popularity in Russia, which also reflects well on Putin. However I think they may have fallen out over the Moscow Mayor thing recently. (That saga is still playing out even this morning. The Russian media tycoon Alexander Lebedev, has just has his Moscow bank 'raided'. He was mortal enemies with said ex-mayor)

If Putin and Medvedev fall out - it could mean that Medvedev has a new backer, or that it is a charade. Either way, a fall out between those two could have huge ramifications.

JAPAN MAKES RECALL OF AMBASSADOR... hehehehe

If you are on certain systems, it just means somebody on your DSL "Party line" got banned and the bot banned everybody in that ISP. Usually an email can get you unbanned. It worked for me a couple of times. Usually being a paying customer will keep that from happening.
