Maybe so, in regular seawater. BP and the US g'ment has dumped Corexit into the oil spill creating an emulsion which is magnetized.

They know that they are magnetizing the emulsion of oil and seawater, but have not satisfactorily explained the reason.

May be possible that the subs are having trouble demagnitizing in an emulsion of magnetic elements.
