Re: Something Just Went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico. The US Navy just sunk a French Submarine
I know this is farfetched , but I think of the GOM as a big heat reservoir. Even as it is without manipulation. But, it a temp can be reached where there is a mass release of methane crystals to a gaseous state, or.... .Since the .gov's have admitted that the ocean surface is rising due to a growing methane pocket, any type of fracture releasing this would probably be cataclysmic, I know if I want to release a captured source like this, I would wait and detonate numerous nukes to release. Of, course to get the biggest bang for the money I would wait until, the pocket was right at rupture point on it's own. Now, last night again for the fourth time on five days, I was watching ROV's doing surface inspections. Just slowly cruising along. I honestly suspect that this is becoming almost to much for them to contain, (info wise), if a nuke was used, would the heat from the blast, release the methane crystals state from solid to gaseous within the blast radius? Just thinking out loud here...For some reason over the past week, methane is constantly on my mind, but with "changing states", we know the oil alone is heating the water.
Darker colors absorb more heat.

If it's a volcano as many suspect, there WILL come a trigger point (where the water reaches a certain temp) where the methane crystals will go gaseous and float to the surface.

Watcher,

I paid attention in chemistry only long enough to pass with the lowest possible passing score.

If they were to blast and change the methane...what would happen?

Wouldn't that make it worse?

My Greek is poor, but my general feel for this statement: "ellinas eisai re?" is a question, in English as "continue the flow in Greek?"
Sounds to me like he is asking this to another GLP'r. I've read every post since the beginning, and I think GLP is the message board for them(?). If someone can translate the Greek messages, that would sure be helpful.

Re: Something Just Went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico. The US Navy just sunk a French Submarine
The detonation would be 5 thousand feet down, so I can't imagine the flames would reach the surface, watching numerous underwater nuke tests. But, if they detonated on the floor, the shock wave would be severe, releasing whatever gas was trapped, releasing the trapped methane crystals, as the sudden rush of heated water hit them, include hot oil/magma?, And as a wild card(just for grins), detonate them on a suspected fault line. Well, that's pretty Doomtastic to me. :(

Re: Something Just Went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico. The US Navy just sunk a French Submarine
Yes.

In the early days of glp, we covered a lot of information about Antarctica, its historical mysteries and seemingly prevailing importance.

About ten years ago, there was emergency evacuations of research personnel during the working months, which was never explained.

It is the location of the last battle of WWII, which was never put in the history books. We got whipped.

There are a warm water lakes under the ice with the largest in Russia's possession. Same longitude as Thunder Horse.

Reported time/lapse/gravity/shift within balloon height from the ground.

Much more, but it will take a lot of work get set up a reasonable post summarizing some things which seem to inter-relate to the mess in the GOM. All my notes are a couple computers ago and I don't have my old hard drives.

Perhaps other can suggest relevance to Antarctica, particularly in light of OP's reference to "Polar" names and other such remarks. Particularly that Polar ships are not yet retrofitted.

Something has gone wrong with the "scheduling" of the GOM event by the tptb. Bill Clinton retains support of a lot of the US public and he is endorsing bombing the site. O'bama reported to say that it is too early, timing is not right, but seems clear that a bomb will be the answer.

btw, I see no possibility of evacuating the Gulf Coast population. The logistics are too great.

1. GOM is the second largest field(s)/location to date of hydrates.
Second only to that found in the perma frost.

Remember OP's girlfriend mentioned 301 and 300 ?
300 Project Deep Freeze (what we know is about antartic)= PERMA FROST
301 Project Anti-Freeze (what could be about THE GOM ...)

...

Thoughts on this ?

This feeling is getting stronger and stronger with me, has been for the last month, thus the denial to allow other countries in,since they have approved them,so this has to take place before those other countries can gear up and arrive. They're buying a little more time for the big show.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 993124

MS/SFO

Project Description
The work to be conducted under this agreement is to continue technological development aimed at the establishment of a monitoring station/sea-floor observatory (MS/SFO) to monitor and investigate the hydrocarbon system within the hydrate stability zone (HSZ) of the northern Gulf of Mexico. The intention of this and past efforts is to consolidate research effort and to equip the MS/SFO with a variety of sensors that will enable the determination of a steady-state description of physical, chemical and thermal conditions in its local environment as well as to detect temporal changes of those conditions. Objectives for work under this agreement include deployment, installation, and testing of sensor and support systems critical to the successful operation of the gas hydrates MS/SFO in MC118.
