We haven't had rain either! We see it on the radar, we see on the news when they say 'heading your way' on the Atlanta news stations, but it never makes it and no thunder. I will look on weather.com and see the darkest red storm systems on the dopplar radar, but it never gets here and even though it shows right over my road, it's not here. And as bright red as those systems show on the screen, it should be thundering like crazy, but it isn't. Lightning only, no rain.

We did have a drizzle for about 10 minutes last week, that's been it though.

Please explain how you got the word "antifreeze" from this article. I just checked the link and it reads "lubricating oil" which is not the same thing. Antifreeze goes in the radiator, oil does not.

Has the word in the article at Yahoo news been changed?

It's not just BP's oil in the Gulf that threatens world's oceans

<snips>
A sobering new report warns that the oceans face a "fundamental and irreversible ecological transformation" not seen in millions of years as greenhouse gases and climate change already have affected temperature, acidity, sea and oxygen levels, the food chain and possibly major currents that could alter global weather.

"This is further evidence we are well on our way to the next great extinction event," said Ove Hoegh-Guldberg, the director of the Global Change Institute at the University of Queensland in Australia and a co-author of the report.

"We are becoming increasingly certain that the world's marine ecosystems are reaching tipping points,...

Volcanic activity and large meteorite strikes in the past have "resulted in hostile conditions that have increased extinction rates and driven ecosystem collapse," the report says. "There is now overwhelming evidence human activities are driving rapid changes on a scale similar to these past events.

I seem to remember originally the issue was that the French commander was upset because they (actually he didn't say bhawks, but just helico's) were merely flying US flag but carried no credentials.

Nope, those were the small, fast boats that tried to board and retrieve the 'cargo.'

Small, fast boats... aren't there some small subs called Sharkhunter? Or was that just in a Bond movie? Memory blurring... too much data... LOL!

Orca (Germany), Submarines - Submarine and submersible designs
The Orca design is based on the German Navy Narwhal vehicle and is built of amagnetic non-corrosive steel similar to that used in the German Navy MCMVs.The vehicle is designed to carry out a broad range of covert missions and is able to operate autonomously in the littoral environment carrying out visual and sensor reconnaissance operations, intelligence gathering and anti-mine warfare tasks. The 'dry' vehicle allows divers to exit and enter through the top or bottom of the hull using a lock-in/lock-out chamber. Stealth is assured as no air bubbles are emitted and the water is not disturbed in any way.The Orca can be fitted with a five-step telescopic mast carrying above-water sensors such as colour video camera with pan and tilt functions, together with HF/VHF radio antenna and GPS antennas. A second video camera fitted in the bow is used for classification and observation. An obstacle avoidance sonar with a range of 200 m is also mounted in the bow.Up to five divers (including the pilot) can be carried to a range in excess of 150 n miles (depending on mission profile and equipment carried). The vehicle can operate autonomously for several days and carries a 96-hour emergency life-support reserve. Communications equipment (which includes VHF radio, short-wave radio, intercom and UWT) allows the vehicle to carry out target updating and final mission planning while en route to the target area.It exhibits a very low acoustic and magnetic signature. The submersible is very manoeuvrable even at low speeds, while maximum speed

Just a reminder.

The oil spill is moving with the loop current, which means it will make it out into the Atlantic. The World's oceans produce most of our atmospheric oxygen (marine organisms-photosynthesis) and oil is toxic to most of these organisms. The oceans are already acidifying, and marine life is declining globally because of good old fashioned pollution.

My point- are we at the tipping point for a global die-off due to oxygen depletion? At current rates of synthesis, it would take 2000 years to replace what is in the atmosphere now. Think about it.

As of this writing, the behemoth A Whale is not yet ready to attack the Gulf of Mexico oil spill after a weekend of testing proved inconclusive, mostly due to the rough sea state caused by Hurricane Alex, according to Nola, quoting a statement from TMT on Monday, July 5, 2010.

"Regarding the use of Corexit oil dispersants, Dudley said they have been approved by the EPA and been used in the Gulf for a long time but he acknowledged that they've never been used in the quantities they have been with this effort. As for their toxicity, he said "many things have a toxicity level, including dish soap," adding that Corexit's toxicity is "not far off" from that.P

EPA "approved" but for what? To what use has EPA approved the use of something like Corexit?

I'm wondering now if EPA "approved" Agent Orange before it was sprayed in 'nam on the natives and the soldiers.
