A new containment cap and an extra ship were headed to the spill site and could have BP's massive leak under control by Monday, National Incident Commander Thad Allen said.

Allen said once the new containment system is in place, it can collect between 60,000 to 80,000 barrels of oil a day, roughly the same amount BP and government officials estimate the well spews daily.

The encouraging news comes two days after BP's managing director Bob Dudley said the oil spill could possibly be stopped completely before the end of the month.

"It's possible to be ready to stop the well between July 20 and July 27," Dudley told the Wall Street Journal, though he preceded his remarks, saying, "In a perfect world, with no interruptions."
