Those are coordinates for 42889 Medusa Mississippi Canyon 582. Has anyone mentioned what is relative to that site?

28° 38.672'N, 89° 45.067'W

That may be it there.

Re: Something Just Went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico. The US Navy just sunk a French Submarine
.......
There was recently some interesting news in the international intelligence realm, which could also be considered conspiracy theory, that a North Korean cargo ship on its way to Venezuela went off course and came within 250 miles from the BP oil rig which caught on fire and caused this huge eco-disaster oil spill. It was further asserted that this North Korean cargo ship offloaded a North Korean attack submarine.

WEnt off course and ended up 250 miles from the Horizon rig site....in the GOM...on it's way to Venezuela??!!

Damn, that is one of the funniest things I have read today!

Sounds very similar to US officials explaining that no US Air Force was in the air until 45 minutes after 9 and 11 first hit. The whole time CNN is showing the viewing teevee public a map charting the approach of an "unidentified" toward the country's capitol.

Why is Venezuela being insinuated into the GOM disaster?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1039067

Chavez did just nationalize 11 US oil rigs in June.... [link to news.yahoo.com]

Venezuela will nationalize a fleet of oil rigs belonging to U.S. company Helmerich and Payne, the latest takeover in a push to socialism as President Hugo Chavez struggles with lower oil output and a recession.

A former soldier inspired by Cuba's Fidel Castro, Chavez has made energy nationalization the linchpin in his 'revolution'. He has also taken over assets in telecommunications, power, steel and banking.

The 11 drilling rigs have been idled for months following a dispute over pending payments by the OPEC member's state oil company PDVSA. Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez said on Wednesday the rigs, the Oklahoma-based company's entire Venezuelan fleet, were being nationalized to bring them back into production.

Ramirez said companies that refused to put their rigs into production were part of a plan to weaken Chavez's government,

"There is a group of drill owners that has refused to discuss tariffs and services with PDVSA and have preferred to keep this equipment stored for a year," Ramirez told reporters in the oil producing state of Zulia. "That is the specific case with U.S. multinational Helmerich and Payne."

Again, the A WHALE does something that is not what a skimmer would do. It hauls ass to get somewhere and then comes almost or completely to a stop.

Right over Sackett Bank.

That puppy is not right in the head.

I wonder if it has a gigantic magnetic pulse generator in it to knock out sabotage weapons like the sonic drills, and it has been searching and waiting.

OOOOH I have become a conspiracy theorist at last. Save me from this thread!!!!

JBU SCHELDE is speeding in at 16 knots too..

edit
now slowing as it gets closer to A WHALE
 Quoting: bevvy

Ok I know I'm a bit slow at times, but, can someone explain to me how I can still have the trail of the JBU SCHELDE but the boat goes missing.... have searched now on vessels tab and no records found, what does that mean??

Your coputer program still has the memory of the tracking, but when it refreshed (evry 100 seconds) it no longer had the info on the ship location. The ship had turned off the transponder.

Pretty much whenever they think there is an advantage to. If it is coming into port, and is acknowledged by the port authority, it really is no longer needed. It is mainly for ship traffic verification by the coast guard and for the ship owners and cargo owners to know right where the ship is. Helps sometimes.

I've been watching you, Housedad, how you've almost hijacked this thread by having an answer for EVERYTHING. It seems like you are trying just a little TOO hard.

Now, you just happen to have a degree in astrophysics?

Why are you so evasive about the use of a transponder on a ship or plane?

A transponder is a simple piece of electronic equipment that transmits a signal from a ship or plane that identifies that ship or plane to others.

If planes don't want to be identified, they will turn off their transponder. I suspect that is why this ship has turned off its transponder. You make it sound like this little piece of electronic gear is some kind of a huge power drain.

Not a huge power drain, just a few watts at most to uplink to the satellite, but it is something that the port authorities usually want turned off in port. Radio interference crap regulations. In some instances, you don't want the competition to know your exact whereabouts or docking times, either.

I don't mean to make it sound mysterious. It is something I consider minor.

Ahhh, so that is what happened to PHER KAD STAR and GEN MAR SIREPGHI (spelling?) also listed LR. Both are (red) tankers, they were in GOM, next time I checked, they just disappeared. They aren't even listed in the vessels section. Go figure?

Back then we wrote our own and called them investigatory software :). I hacked a lot of stuff back in the 80's. I also have 3 24" monitors sitting in front of me to work with.

But only one keyboard, and It unfortunately is going bad. a couple of keys don't work. Gott go get another one.

The 2nd dice has many levels ;) and is 3-dimensional, so the impact and influence are going to be visable in the REAL-world we see and live in.

Its a Carbon-dice-game.

Re: Something Just Went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico. The US Navy just sunk a French Submarine
I'd like to thank everyone who contributed substantially to this thread. I have learned much about the GOM, and even more about what information resources are available on the web. Great job, Krispy, HouseDad and everyone else.

So first thing this morning I too, am wondering just what the rim, the columns, and flocking is.

Is it the edge of the continental shelf where depths drop steeply?

Is it the other underwater canyon formations such as Mississippi Canyon?

A collapsed salt dome that we have not been able to locate?

Could the columns referenced be the "Alabama Alps" or the "Pinniacles" that I linked yesterday?

Or could they be the formation referenced as new growth at underwater vents, as described above?

Or, columns of naturally escaping methane/oil in other locations?

And on "flocking". I still can't figure out what would adhere to an underwater hull such as a submarine. I keep thinking that logically these boats are designed to deal with pretty much everything they would encounter whilst deployed. So, what is it about the hull of a sub that would or could, acrete any material at all?

And with that, I need a refill on my coffee here.......
