Re: Something Just Went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico. The US Navy just sunk a French Submarine
And on "flocking". I still can't figure out what would adhere to an underwater hull such as a submarine. I keep thinking that logically these boats are designed to deal with pretty much everything they would encounter whilst deployed. So, what is it about the hull of a sub that would or could, acrete any material at all?

And with that, I need a refill on my coffee here.......

From wikipedia somewhere ...

Flocking is the process of depositing many small fiber particles (called flock) onto a surface. It can also refer to the texture produced by the process, or to any material used primarily for its flocked surface. Flocking of an article can be performed for the purpose of increasing its value in terms of the tactile sensation, aesthetics, color and appearance. It can also be performed for functional reasons including insulation, slip-or-grip friction, and low reflectivity.

Flocking is the application of fine particles to adhesive coated surfaces. Nowadays, this is usually done by the application of a high-voltage electric field. In a Flocking Machine the "flock" is given a negative charge whilst the substrate is earthed. Flock material flies vertically onto the substrate attaching to previously applies glue. A number of different substrates can be Flocked including; textiles, fabric, woven fabric, paper, PVC, sponge, toys, automotive plastic.

I'd say 'something' down deep adversely affects submarines, and maybe even ship hulls - via flocking. Particles? Organisms? Stuff coming up from deep vents? Might explain Directive 300 or 301 a bit.

Re: Something Just Went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico. The US Navy just sunk a French Submarine
Interesting information about the maritime Automatic Identification System (AIS):

1. What is AIS? Per 47 CFR 80.5, AIS is a maritime navigation safety communications system standardized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) that provides vessel information, including the vessel's identity, type, position, course, speed, navigational status and other safety-related information automatically to appropriately equipped shore stations, other ships, and aircraft; receives automatically such information from similarly fitted ships; monitors and tracks ships; and exchanges data with shore-based facilities.

6. When must AIS be in operation? Vessels equipped with AIS (either by mandatory carriage or voluntarily) must abide by the requirements set forth in Title 33, Code of Federal Regulations, 164.46 and 161.20, and should especially ensure their AIS is in 'effective operating condition', which entails the continuous operation of AIS and the accurate input and upkeep of AIS data fields during all times that the vessel is navigating (underway or at anchor).

Should continual operation of AIS compromise the safety or security of the vessel or where a security incident is imminent, the AIS may be switched off. This action and the reason for taking it must be reported to the nearest U.S. Captain of the Port or Vessel Traffic Center and recorded in the ship's logbook. The AIS should return to continuous operation as soon as the source of danger has been mitigated.

Which makes perfect sense...they've used so many dispersants on that oil, how on earth can anyone skim it? I wish someone would explain the use of the dispersants...WHY they used them, and HOW they expect to collect the oil, when it's been broken up into small molecules...WHAT was the purpose of doing that? The one thing about this I have never quite understood...

by the way Krispy...thank you once again for all your hard work keeping those resumes coming...much appreciated...

Like said before by many here : they have created a magnetic/electric field over there ! I think it is regulated.

The flock-particles are magnetised and act like magnets rejecting or attracting each other ...
If a ship/vessel has a positive charge then specific flocks are magneticaly drawn to that ship/vessel.

It is also known that some kinds of crystals can behave like a magnet ;)

But like I said before : the MAGNETIC field is A KEY !

Now, Gabriel, someone will take you seriously.

French sub is not healed after being attacked by alien microbes that morph to 197au and then continue morhphing, which microbes were emitted from the seabed at the original fissure busted into the seabed by BP, possibly by the Thunder Horse rig back in February. We do not have have conclusive evidence of which sub sabotaged the Deepwater Horizon rig which went down April 20th.

I am available with the answers because I either know the uestion, or I have been using search engines of various levels and types before there was a internet. Back then we wrote our own and called them investigatory software :). I hacked a lot of stuff back in the 80's. I also have 3 24" monitors sitting in front of me to work with.

But only one keyboard, and It unfortunately is going bad. a couple of keys don't work. Gott go get another one.

I'm jealous, sitting and struggling with my 4 yo 1G Dell lappie with a bad monitor, now hooked to an old 14-inch fatso, heat-blasting monster.

Keyboards are $3 at the junk store! Pretty good selection.

Not a huge power drain, just a few watts at most to uplink to the satellite, but it is something that the port authorities usually want turned off in port. Radio interference crap regulations. In some instances, you don't want the competition to know your exact whereabouts or docking times, either.

I don't mean to make it sound mysterious. It is something I consider minor.

Where did you get this information?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 890341

Yeah, after 9 and 11 kinda concerned about turning off transponders. The US officials told us that the Air Force "couldn't find the approaching unknown plane" because it was like looking for a needle in a haystack - no transponder.
