This action and the reason for taking it must be reported to the nearest U.S. Captain of the Port or Vessel Traffic Center and recorded in the ship's logbook. The AIS should return to continuous operation as soon as the source of danger has been mitigated. Above information is from: [link to www.navcen.uscg.gov] So, it appears that either these rules/regulations are not being followed, or that safety/security is an issue. That we are seeing ships' transponders being turned on and off rather indiscriminately sure gives us reason to wonder why. |

Yesterday the same thing happened when another ship was heading for A Whales area, its transponder stopped transmitting, then later when it was pst Awhale it started to show again. Have a look at yesterdays posts... I think there is a reason they are off the map so to speak! |

English is not my native language, and sometimes I see you guys use words that sound cute .. like lurking. In holland we say also "lurken" but it means sucking (on a straw to drink) and some other meanings.
