Prepare personally for a national time of crises likely to last at least for a generation.

To be honest if you grew up in Louisiana you know that oil spill are not that uncommon. This one is massive and a huge problem, but there have been tarballs on Grand Isle Beach for as long as I can remember. Sometimes you go fishing and you find yourself in an oil 3 inches deep. Not to downplay the DWH and how much of a catastrophe it is, but trust me the moratorium on drilling is a bigger catastrophe. People have no idea what this is going to do to the economy. Not just in Louisiana, but the whole country. If oil companies pull out, the price of natural gas is going to skyrocket. If we have a cold winter, people will not be able to afford to heat their homes. We could see gas prices in the $8-9 a gallon range. There are ways to contain this oil even if it gushes for 3-5 years. And if they did tap into Pandora's box down there and the South is going to blow up... It is what it is... There is not enough room in the North for all of us anyway.

I don't recall anybody insisting on a moratorium on drilling here, or anywhere else.

BP, Transocean, Haliburton and Wackenhut ... get them out!

We've got more natural gas on the market than we can use! The reason Cheney/Bush went straight for Afghanistan after 9 and 11 was to daisy-cutter the Afghan mountains to cut a path for the new natural gas line from the Caspian Sea to port in Pakistan. Saved a lot of time, expense and trouble of blasting and grading tunnels through the mountains for the pipeline. This gas line had already been engineered and right-of-way determined before the US bombed the path using the Cheney/Bush style of eminent domain. At the same time the Port of Savannah (GA) initiated doubling the size of its LNG storage capacity on Elba Island.

"Savannah's port is one of the busiest in the United States. The terminals that serve the port are only surpassed in East Coast trade volume by the combined ports of New York and New Jersey. Some of the world's largest merchant vessels bring in cargos from Asia, Europe, South America, the South Pacific, and Africa and return with American commodities. Much of this freight is handled as containerized cargo. The Port of Savannah welcomes over 3,000 vessels per year.

"The expansion of the Elba Island LNG terminal would more than double the storage capacity. The project is designed to increase the storage capacity by 8.4 Bcf to 15.7 Bcf, plus increase the send-out capacity by 900 MMcf/day to 2.1 Bcf/day. The...This phase is scheduled to be in service in mid-2010. The second phase of the terminal expansion will add another storage tank and is scheduled to be completed in 2012.

The Elba Express Pipeline Project will transport natural gas from the Elba Island LNG terminal to markets throughout the Eastern, in part via interconnects with other interstate pipelines. The new pipeline will include approximately 105 miles of 42-inch pipeline and 86 miles of 36-inch pipeline. The initial phase of the pipeline is scheduled for completion in 2010. The capacity will be increased to 1.2 Bcf/day by installing a compressor station, and this addition is scheduled for completion in 2012."

Lack of room up North? Is that the reason all these damn Yankees keeping moving in down South? ;)
