it would be normal for a substance to change mass under varying temperatures but to change weight is 'traditionally' impossible without evaporation or condensation

my suggestion of the laylines might explain the weight discrepancy in a non-traditional sense

Warmth or even magnetical/electrical fields can have influence on the chemical reactions of that jelly which can alter structure and mass. Logic science.
Leylines could add to the magnetical/electrical interaction on the jelly-content.
