just thoughts

Are you suggesting that heat is a by-product of half life and the decaying process of isotopes?

here you can check, whether the golf at a certain location is heating up, if you trust the satellite images of course

??? !!!!

Oh, my gosh!

The Gulf is cooler than the Atlantic? Am I reading that right? The only "warmish" spot in the Gulf is the oil spill?

No.

Plug-in today's date and you get the real deal. Looks hot, like it should:

[link to polar.ncep.noaa.gov]

don't trust the images, following that site 3 months now, went off air for 2,5 days 4 weeks ago, so.............

Of course I can trust those images. The mere fact tropical storms and powerful hurricanes form is because of the warmth in those very waters. 1+1=2

Do not trust! It is a modeling site and someone's coloring book.

It is nice to see the open exchanges on this thread. That said, come on -- 1+1=2
If it was only that site that we had as evidence, I would be suspect like you and the other poster flying Netherlands colors with the nice behind he showed me.

But you know as well as I do that hurricanes only form in the GOM and the Atlantic (or cyclones in other regions) due to one main factor or ingredient in most all cases - warm water...

So that link first given to that site had a date other than current, so was giving false, cooler temp info. When the date is adjusted to this month, it yes, looks like it should. It is that simple. (site + lot's of hurricanes or tropical storms)1+1=2

"Generally, a hurricane begins its formation when a storm passes over a body of 80 degree or higher water."
see link to this quote below.

Necessary Conditions for Hurricanes to Form

1. 80 degree, or warmer, water temperature, which is at least 150 feet deep
2. A low pressure area with wind disturbance
3. A lack of stability in the air, which allows clouds to develop
4. A centrifugal force, known as a Coriolis Force, stemming from the earth's rotation
5. Moist air, i.e., a thunderstorm, in the lower portion of the atmosphere
6. Low level winds, with directional changes, known as wind shear

a very revealing story

Is the window of opportunity in Russian-U.S. relations closing?

It is always interesting to watch a shooting star or to see an e-mail fall from cyberspace. This time, I received an article "Changing Course in Moscow" by Jeffrey Mankoff from the upcoming September/October issue of Foreign Affairs magazine. Mankoff is the author of the book "Russian Foreign Policy: The Return of Great Power Politics."

There is clearly a new policy — what Mankoff calls a "dramatic shift" — as President Medvedev is the force behind the efforts to modernize the Russian economy with the help of the United States and the European Union. For former President Vladimir Putin to propose this during the presidency of George W. Bush would have been laughable. The author's argument is fairly obvious, but then he comes across an interesting thought that boils down to two words: two years.

It is relationship between the United States and China that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has referred to as the most important issue in the world, followed by the Greater Middle East (Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, etc.), and only then by relations between Russia and the West.

general info

no ships appear to be in GOM at the location

all the transponders off ? or they are really not there?

link: [link to www.marinetraffic.com]

That is interesting if true.the methane levels must have gotten too high.

spend hours to look for any news. can you all try do the same. call relatives overthere? something is going on

I've contacted the few I know and have had friends call and contact family/people that they know down in the Gulf area.

It appears that about 95% of the population think the Gulf situation is under control because that is what they've been told. Those who continue to warn about the health issues and demand transparency are considered to be the ones who don't have reliable information.

After the ABC report last week that the oil was still there, but underwater, a couple of people called acknowledging that it must be true. They wanted to know what else was going on that hadn't been told.

On marinetraffic - at the GOM- I just clicked on the vessels button, chose a random vessel, clicked on that. Takes you to a bunch of ships all nestled up behind Lake Pontchartrain...but none IN the GOM.

Don't you find that most of those are tugs in port, and not ocean-going ships? It's been like that since the end of August.

Can't confirm or deny history. I do see quite a few tankers and cargo vessels (ocean-going ships) anchored toward the right of the screen. Seems like the hurricane issue could be in play.

can you give me a link which hurricane(s) you are talking about and threatening the watertraffic, in the Golf?

Ocean temps don't change that fast in a couple of days, but the colors in someone's coloring book can change anytime they pick up a different color crayon. No trust. I live around here and know where hurricanes come from. The water in the creek coming by my house won't change drastic temperature in a two-day time period.

Tired of the BS and want truth, even if it hurts. If we can't get some transparency somewhere, there'll be a few of us who will begin to think that everyone in the Southeast US are already dead, no matter what we do.

AC asked about hurricanes that MIGHT be affecting marinetraffic.com not showing any vessels in the GOM, but some ocean-going vessels are anchored in port. I posted stormwatch.com. I was hedging my bet that the next post was going to be 'but there's no hurricanes in the GOM'...so I posted the cross reference to shipping routes. There were/are two large hurricanes Igor and Julia in the Atlantic...in the path of the shipping lanes. Nothing more from my end.

this is a site i use alot. i can vouch for its accuracy for ocean temp readings off australias east coast. the temp charts ae a little generalised but you can pick your area of intrest and overlap a synoptic chart over it. hope it helps confirm gulf ocean temps, if still needed.

Showing hot spot off Tampa/St Pete, moreso than the well site. Curious since that is where Arctic Sunrise was docked for a few days, plus people breaking out in rash after swimming in their pools at that location.

Maybe Tampa/St Pete didn't have a boat cleaning station out in the Gulf like they did at Panama City. Just brought those morphing-metal eating bugs right on into port.

NPR reported that the relief well has intersected the oil/gas well at DWH.I wonder if gas is leaking now!!!!!!!

linkie?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 979825

Relief well intersects blown-out BP well
Joining 2.5 miles under Gulf floor is prelude to final plug

Snip:

Retired Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, the government's point man on the oil spill, said in a statement that data shows the two wells are joined. The next step will be to pump mud and cement down through the relief well to seal the ruptured well permanently from the bottom.
