One of the cool things about these Mistral Class vessels is that they are electrically driven via pods. This means that the traditional internal set up of engine and prop no longer applies. In between the pods at the rear is a gaping mouth that allows smallish surface vessels to enter the vessel, or leave it. This allows for reasonably covert deliveries via air or sea.

I bet that even a mini sub could enter at the rear also...
