Early on, when we first learned about 'Synthia' there was a video posted to the thread of J Craig Venter talking about his work. My take was that he was explaining that Synthia was created by computer for the purpose of eating oil and hydrocarbons to clean up oil spills.
We, on this thread had discussed the mutation of what we thought was the AU organism and wondered whether, when we learned about Synthia, that the created Synthia was the cause of the mutation.
It is insane that Venter is being promoted to go around the country talking up his 'creations' as something positive when no one knows what is going on and animals are dropping dead with no suitable explanation to the public.
Based on the very little information available to me, I have to believe that Venter is a Dr. Frankenstein for BP.

as to Synthia, my question was specifically asking if anyone thought that synthia was designed to get rid of org ... (I know the official explanation was that it was designed to remove oil) .... hence my question about the oil rig ... was the oil rig explosion done intentionally, so that they had a reason to use corexit and synthia to combat org (if that makes sense?)
This conversation is helpful to remind us that we do not know when Synthia was introduced into the Gulf.
We know that the official date of the oil gusher being unstoppable was February 13, 2010 when BP contacted the US government and advised that they had a break they had not been able to stop. At that time it seems likely that BP knew they had an organism loose that they could not control (assuming here that was the AU organism which was heating/eating/swarming submersible equipment.)
The intentional rig explosion was set up to explain all the oil in the Gulf waters to the public and the use of Corexit to 'make it go away' so BP would not have to tell that the sea floor had been cracked/fracked open.
We do not know when Synthia was introduced into the water, thus we do not know whether the Corexit was being used in an attempt to kill the AU organism or Synthia, or both.
I pray that the US government does realize the seriousness of this issue and has scientists working feverishly behind the scenes searching for a solution, hopefully with the assistance and cooperation of researchers from around the world.
