Its something many scientists are wrangling with in the new nano sciences. Colour and vibration, and how other seemingly disparate influences effect nano crystals are some of those challenges.
There was talk about giant mono crystals yesterday on chat.
As a singular giant crystal, could they possibly also react differently to our normal scientific rules?
I am trying to find an article in a Scientific Australian magazine, which is about 6 years old now, on just this. They list a whole raft of peculiar characteristics that nano crystals display. They even mentioned gold. The article was actually called "what colour is gold". In it they talked about manipulating the natural crystal, which is round, to an elongated tube crystal, which completely changed the properties of the gold, yet it was still technically gold. They talked about how this new gold morphed in to different states under the influence of different lasers and also temperature.
All on the nano level mind you.
I cant believe I have just remembered this. Sounds familiar doesnt it!
