A calibrator, by it's very nature, is a device that creates a standard by which something else is calibrated by.


Sort of indicates that whatever is being used as a offensive tool/weapon on the organism is already available on the subs and ships. It may just need to know the new modulations or signals to put out. Possibly new signals or modulations could be different between locations. This also may mean that the calibrator sets the standards on the fly. Must be a interesting computer system and programming in that thing.

That would indicate the calibrator is used to detect the frequency or to detect something in the organism itself and set a standard.

In this regard, I would tend toward it sampling some information about the organism itself or it's behavior, that would set a standard .
In any event, since the calibrators are going through different levels higher and higher, as in 1x, 2 x, 3x, 10x, etc., it appears to me that whatever it is sampling is getting more complicatied. Such as the organism becoming more and more complex in its activity and organization, therefore requiring calibration equipment with greater and greater capabilities.
