Path along Mississippi River levee in New Orleans to close to pedestrians, bicycles

The paved, multipurpose access path atop the East Bank Mississippi River levee between the Army Corps of Engineers' New Orleans District headquarters building and the Jefferson Parish line will be closed beginning Monday through May 2013, the corps announced Friday. The closure is part of the corps' Carrollton Mississippi River Levee enlargement project.

The project will raise a 10,000-foot-long segment of the levee between 1 and 2 feet from the parish line to the downriver end of the Audubon Park Riverview, often referred to as the Fly.
