A couple points: Didn't the South African vessel have the coating and also could dive deeper, faster and stay down longer than any of the others? There was discussion that the SA vessel may have been built by the US.
Rather than degaussing ships in iron rich water, perhaps the internal systems now include electrolysis which is incorporated into the vessel's power system. Wiki: "... in the electrolysis of brine to produce hydrogen and chlorine, the products are gaseous."
A number of these self-sustaining systems have been developed for commercial proposes, primarily using fresh water as a source for hydrogen generators. The French island of Corsica has such a unit at one of the towns.
Don't know anything about the engineering, so OK to shoot me down on the comment.

When countries sell off military vehicles, do they take off any tech' that might be classified still? I dont know if they would leave on something that significant? The iron rich water only tied in to the corexit spraying for me, which is why I pounced on it! Like a few here, I'm pretty sure the time frame for the DWH disaster was much, much sooner, out by as much as 6 months. That is a lot of time to pump corexit below the surface, and spray the top to a level where it was noticable. ** Reminds me to see if any algal blooms were detected at the end of 2009 and early 2010. Been meaning to do that for two years now!!! LOL Try again, Hell Yes. Nothing significant is supposed to be left on however I have hear a few stories about helicopters and missile tubes but nothing truly cutting edge. That is why the Russians were so happy to capture US Military vehicles after the attack on South Ossetia [along with some of the US "advisors" with the Georgians] They said they had been trying to obtain that communication gear through espionage for over ten years and thanked the Americans for backing the Georgians who ran away without destroying the vehicles as per the manual. I have been talking to some former US Air-force pilots recently, they have been telling me about the tech that was in their helmets 10 years ago, just think what you needed and it activated and pulled up what you wanted with a little training and profiling of your brainwaves. Ten years ago and they said it was already "old". If Gravity is just an EM effect like I think it is you could generate artificial gravity easily and we would have been doing so since the 60's, they took everything Telsa had and put every top Black Project scientist that could find on the notes and apparatus to work out what he knew. Tesla died in 1943.
