The 17th day in the Jewish month of Tammuz, Jews the world over fast and lament to commemorate the many calamities that have befallen our people on this ominous day.

The purpose of such fasts in the Jewish calendar is, according to Rabbi Eliyahu Kitov's Book of Our Heritage, "to awaken hearts towards repentance through recalling our forefathers' misdeeds; misdeeds which led to calamities..."

A HISTORIC DAY OF CALAMITY

Going all the way back to Biblical times, Moses descended Mount Sinai on this day and, upon seeing the Golden Calf broke the first set of Tablets carrying the Ten Commandments (Shemot 32:19, Mishna Taanit 28b).

In the First Temple Era: The priests in the First Temple stopped offering the daily sacrifice on this day (Taanit 28b) due to the shortage of sheep during the siege and the next year 3184 (586 BCE), the walls of Jerusalem were breached after many months of siege by Nebuchadnezzar and his Babylonian forces.

In Melachim II 21:7 we find that King Menashe, one of the worst of the Jewish kings, had an idol placed in the Holy Sanctuary of the Temple, according to tradition on this date. The Talmud, in Masechet Taanit 28b, says that in the time of the Roman persecution, Apostomos, captain of the occupation forces, did the same, and publicly burned the Torah - both acts considered open blasphemy and desecration. These were followed by Titus and Rome breaching the walls of Jerusalem in 3760 (70 CE) and Pope Gregory IX ordering the confiscation of all manuscripts of the Talmud in 4999 (1239).

In later years this day continued to be a dark one for Jews. In 1391, more than 4,000 Jews were killed in Toledo and Jaen, Spain and in 4319 (1559) the Jewish Quarter of Prague was burned and looted.

The Kovno ghetto was liquidated on this day in 5704 (1944) and in 5730 (1970) Libya ordered the confiscation of Jewish property.

Other interesting occurrences on this day include Noach sending out the first dove to see if the Flood waters had receded, (Bereishit 8:8) in 1650 (2100 BCE); Moshe Rabbeinu destroying the golden calf, (Shemot 32:20, Seder Olam 6, Taanit 30b - Rashi) and then ascending back up Har Sinai for the second time where he spent the next forty days pleading for forgiveness for the sin of the golden calf, (Shemot 33:11, Rashi).

The Fast of the Fourth Month

The Mishna in Ta'anit 4:8 associates the 17th of Tammuz as the "Fast of the Fourth Month" mentioned by the prophet Zechariah. According to this Mishna, the 17th of Tammuz will be transformed in the messianic era in a day that"shall be joy to the House of Judah" full of "gladness and cheerful feasts".

Customs

The fast of the 17th of Tammuz is observed from the break of dawn until night (as defined by halacha), one of four Jewish fasts to be observed in this manner - 3 Tishrei, 10 Tevet, 13 Adar and 17 of Tammuz.

Expecting or nursing mothers and those who are ill are expected to observe the fast but with lenience, refraining from meat, luxurious food and hard liquor.

Minors that are old enough to understand, though exempt from fasting, should also be fed only simple foods as a manner of education.

Unlike the two Jewish fast days Yom Kippur and Tisha B'Av, washing and wearing leather are permitted on this day.

Special prayers (vayechal and anenu) are added to the morning and afternoon prayers. Ashkenazim add the latter only in the afternoon service (mincha).

This day is the beginning of the Three Weeks, an annual period of mourning over the destruction of the first and second Temples in Jerusalem.

Repent and believe in JESUS or burn in hell "lake of fire" forever !!! Believe before you die because you have no second chance in hell !!!

In the News (from BBC News): “An atheist advertising campaign has been launched on buses across Britain” The campaign backers were exasperated at the excessive religious advertisement. The promotion carries the slogan “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.”

Michael Laitman's Comment: There was a time when religion lulled the people, giving them psychological fulfillment, security, and hope. But for many centuries now, religion has exploited people instead of protecting them. The bureaucratic apparatus that it has created exceeds even that of the state.

The desire to rule over the minds of the congregation defines today’s religion, which is a political force. It does not matter whether there’s a God or not. Being free from the pressure of the psychological religious brainwashing is already a path to inner peace.

Kabbalah says that there is no world to come (or a world “beyond the grave,” waiting for us after our bodies die). There is only what we reveal in this world. If you attained or revealed more than the five bodily senses, then you will keep this perception even after your body dies along with its five senses. This perception will remain with you forever because bestowal and love are above egoism, and they raise a person above time, space, and change (motion).

The stages of one’s attainment of the universe are:

* Olam HaZeh – “This world,” which is perceived inside egoism, also called the level of Malchut;

* Olam HaBah – “The world to come,” in Kabbalah known as the level of Abba ve Ima of the World of Atzilut.” A Kabbalist ascends to this level during his life. And if a person doesn’t attain this level, then he has to be born again.

* L’Atid Lavo – “Coming in the future,” the level of “Arich Anpin of the World of Atzilut.” It also has to be attained during this life.

* Gmar Tikkun – “The End of Correction” (of egoism). It is when a person attains “the World of Infinity,” where everything is infinitely corrected.

June 28/29, 2010 - The 17th of Tammuz. The day that begins the three weeks of mourning until the 9th of Av.

July 19/20, 2010 - The 9th of Av. This day popped up in the Minutes of a Circle Series. This date was found hinging from and incorporating Israel’s last two wars in 2006 (Hezbollah-Israeli War) and 2008/2009 (Operation Cast Lead). With the 9th of Av being a day of trouble for the Jews and the day the First World War began, it would be an important day to mark down on the calendar. The best guess is that this may be a significant day in the development of the Middle East War.

August 10/11, 2010 - Elul 1. This day is exactly 2,007 years of 360 days from the Pentecost initiation of the Church in AD 32. Abraham was also conceived 2,007 years after Creation. Elul 1 begins the Season of Repentance and fitting for the Church in its needed awareness for the approaching Feast of Trumpets. Only 30 days are now left to ensure one is ready for the Feast.

September 8/9, 2010 - The Feast of Trumpets. This date is believed here to be the Rapture day. It is traditionally known as the day of the Last Trump, a day of shouting, the open door, coronation day of the King, and the day of the Awakening Blast–also known as Resurrection Day.

October 18, 2010 - Heshvan 10. Could this be the sealing day for the 144,000? It would seem to fit the pattern found leading to this day (14,440 and 1,440 days). This is the anniversary day when Noah was sealed in the Ark.



November, 8, 2010 - Kislev 1. The day that has been marked out by the various timelines as the start of the final and 70th week of Daniel chapter 9. This results in a mid-point of the week as being the Feast of Firstfruits 2014 (April 20) with the conclusion on the Day of Atonement 2017 (September 30).


In general there are many things to be looking for in the days ahead. There will be natural disasters (and blackouts), war developments, economic problems leading to a new world order, and of course the disappearance of those who have believed in the salvation of Jesus Christ.

OP - the correct spelling is Shazbot, from wiki:

Mork's greeting was "Na-Nu Na-Nu" (pronounced "nah-noo nah-noo") along with a hand gesture similar to Mr. Spock's Vulcan salute from Star Trek combined with a handshake. It became a popular catchphrase at the time, as did "Shazbot" (SHOZZ-bot), an Orkan profanity that Mork used. Mork also said "kay-o" in place of okay.
