Re: should a near death experience give you enlightenment
Hopefully you become enlightened prior to any near death experience. If you must have that close of a call to open your eyes to reality on the grand scale, then I imagine it is better than dieing without ever becoming enlightened at all.

Many have had enlightenment experiences in near death, but many also do not. I am not a specialist in this area but I do believe that if you have been living correct to begin with you are going to be ok either way it goes.

Good Luck in this quest of knowledge in the field of the unknown.

I like to read the near death experiences of others, and yes, I feel a level of enlightenment as well as comfort. Just google the subject for sites that have many stories, one good site is www.nderf.org

Re: should a near death experience give you enlightenment
It's such a personal thing...it really depends on the person who goes through something like that and what their beiefs are and how they perceive what they experienced.

I think the more you're rooted in the old "religious" philosophy you're more likely to see angels and demons because thats what you believe exists...

If you're more in tune with nature you may see something very different...

I know we are living eternally no matter what happens to our physical body...and no matter how violent or opressive we are on earth...we live always...the whys and hows are not always the clearest...

But does an NDE "give" a person enlightenment? NO...but people do often come to the realization of greater things because of an experience like that...

Having had a near death experience in 2006, all I can say is that I no longer fear death, the place I went to was just pure contentment/happiness. Not that I want to go there anytime soon

I have had a few near death experiences, really close calls.
My friends that know me well all are amazed I'm still here.
I'm not sure how enlightened I am.
I do think that to be enlightened one must realize Life is a big mystery.

Thats bs...many people has been dead for hours and had zero brain activity. Plus, how do you explain things which people saw while having out of body experience and they had no way to know about those but later it was confirmed what they saw indeed happened. There are many cases like this. Even group near-death experiences.

Re: should a near death experience give you enlightenment
I participated in a study done by a university on near death experiences and the aftermath.

I was included in the study more as a control subject, since I had a severe head injury and experienced some of the same type of experiences others claim to have during "near death".

The study focused a lot on thoughts, memories and religious beliefs before and after the experience.
Mine did not change due to the experience.
I stand by the idea that it is a lot of activity going on in the brain.

 Quoting: Aileana

This might be hard to believe - but about 5 yrs ago I actually had an enlightenment. The experience lasted about 5 mos. And since the experience, I have studied the experiences of many others and virtually all were like mine - that is to say that the *first* experience is temporary and usually lasts about 3 mos.

After this experience I read many books which I would have been too skeptical of to read before, one of which was the Magus of Java. In this book, the author travels to Java to learn from a genuine Taoist master. In the book, this master discusses what it's like to be dead. A fascinating read.

btw: tho I cannot say whether or not I was fully enlightened (I don't think I was), I nevertheless had many amazing "supernatural" and spiritual experiences as a result. Simply put, the enlightenment experience is the state of no desire. I (as well as others who've had the experience) are in a state of profound peace because there is no desire for anything - not for objects of the senses, nor for any type of change. There's no desire to help nor harm others. It is only in this state that one can really find peace. All is finally right with the world and there is no need to change anything.

As well, in this state the opposites of right and wrong, good and evil make no sense. In fact, it is this knowledge of the opposites of good and evil that got Adam and Eve kicked out of Eden (i.e. perfection). In the state of enlightenment, there is no right or wrong, good or evil... That is the hidden meaning behind Adam and Eve.

"When You make the two one, and when You make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below, and when You make the male and the female one, so that the male will not be male nor the female female ... then will You enter the Kingdom." —Gospel of Thomas (22)

-----

"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I'll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase "each other" doesn't make any sense.
" —Rumi

lives in the right and wrong region.

In many of the NDEs I have read about, they gain spiritual knowledge but their lives become very hard. Some of them even get told their lives will be hard, but they still choose to come back.

I find that interesting. Must be some divine purpose in it all.

Re: should a near death experience give you enlightenment
blinker NO they do not. Someone close to me had an NDE in hospital and it did not give them enlightenment. I believe that what actually happens is that the devil has groups of devils assigned to give false "experiences" of heaven, or whatever will appeal most to a particular individual*. These will serve the purpose of confirming that person on the path that leads to hell.

We all have Guardian Angels, and I'm afraid devils also assigned to us. They will fill these groups of devils in about your life and what will work best on you.
Zec 12:3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
Psa 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, [and] all the nations that forget God.
Jer 6:2 I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate [woman].
STOCK UP NOW. You should have at least 6 months worth of basics for every member of your household. Stay away from crowds when trouble starts, do not forget water storage, tobacco is worth more than gold or silver, and be kind to hungry children.

Re: should a near death experience give you enlightenment
No. The very concept of "enlightenment" is concerned with giving light as a carrier of "wisdom."

That is a lie from the Serpent/Beast.

Almighty God created light ONLY to divide the day and the night.

"3Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day."

Almighty God does not send "light" to give humankind spiritual wisdom.

Now who has the title "light bringer"??

"12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O day-star, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, that didst lay low the nations!

13 And thou saidst in thy heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; and I will sit upon the mount of congregation, in the uttermost parts of the north;

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to Sheol, to the uttermost parts of the pit." Isaiah 14

Almighty God gave HIS Prophets who were faithful and true to Him, His wisdom for humankind:

"1 Now this is the commandment, the statutes, and the ordinances, which your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it–

2 that thou mightest fear thy God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life;

3 Hear therefore, O JESHURUN , and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the God of thy fathers, hath promised unto thee–a land flowing with milk and honey.

4 Hear, O JESHURUN : our God, is one.

5 And thou shalt love thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples that are round about you;" Deuteronomy 6

This ^^^^^ is ALL THE LAW OF ALMIGHTY GOD THAT THERE IS. EVERYTHING ELSE is a lie, a counterfeit, designed to confuse and mislead the Children of God so that they DO serve the "other gods."

So now, WHO is IT that is bringing this "light" and what could possibly be the purpose?
