BAD DAYS ARE AHEAD User ID: 585354 United States 07/03/2010 02:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Unemployment Extension: Americans Pushed to Their Limit [ link to www.uschron.com] Despite the House passing an unemployment extension measure for Americans who had their jobless benefits expire, for many Americans it may be too late. A reader from Illinois wrote in for the second time, responding to an article written by U.S. Chronicle earlier about a mother from Missouri who skips meals someday in order to feed her boys. In the e-mail, the reader wrote, “…the saddest part is that the Senate left for holiday and the Independence Day holiday at that and abandoned hungry American children…” A 60-year old mother from South Carolina wrote, “I am so afraid I am gong to become homeless. My daughter throws up at night because of her nerves, she is so afraid we might end up living on the street.” A reader from Tennessee wrote, “I have been unemployed since July 2009. My checks ended June 1, 2010. No notice just stopped. Have not paid my mortgage for 2 [months] and just [received] a foreclose notice.” A reader from Pennsylvania who is in favor of an unemployment extension, wrote, “…I barely eat and I am now homeless.” The Senate failed to approve an unemployment extension last week as both the Republicans and Democrats disagreed on how to cover the multi-billion dollar price tag for extending unemployment benefits. |
