No, its unintended consequences. Many think they are secure in there job positions and then comes the company down size. What do you do? Some, the mortgage is greater than the value of the house.

There are some employers that refuse to hire unemployed people as strange as that sounds.

Then their are some employers taking advantage of the job market and hire H1B visa applicants. They sell out their own American brothers and sisters to foreigners.

Get mad people because that is the only thing that will motivate change.

The statistics indicate that there are about five unemployed people for every one job. If there are about 30 million unemployed, then the math says there are only six million jobs available.

That means, when the music stops, all jobs are filled, and there are 24 million people still unemployed, there are people who will still call the unemployed lazy SOBs. This is sad.
A few things to think about. It was business policies that allowed corporations to send jobs offshore, and it was NAFTA and GATT that cemented those practices into place. Greenspan said that when he was the Fed chairman, he purposely kept interest rates high so job creation would slow...in order to prevent wage inflation. That means that Greenspan purposely created unemployment.

Government policy took jobs offshore and helped keep people unemployed. THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH JOBS!! I wish people would stop blaming their neighbor and start looking at this corporate-run government.

As if having a job determines or is a good example of the type of person you are. It is only a fucking job. Get over it and continue to work your job and leave everyone else alone. If you want to end the unemployment issue you should work till you have your own business and hire as many people as possible even if that leaves you with the bare minimum.

I'm a journeyman carpenter/foreman with an AS in electrical engineering and I can't get so much as an interview. been unemployed for over two years. I was smart and saved a lot of money when things were booming otherwise I'd be in deep shit. I'm starting to get nervous now the the UI has run out. it wasn't anything I did to get laid off, the whole company shut down. you look in the want ads around here for construction or electrical jobs and there's nothing.

in answer to your question, if you said that to me face to face, I do believe I would kick the shit out of you.

i am a little tired of being called lazy and worthless, chances are its a little prick kid with a silver spoon stuck in his ass. his perception isnt based upon reality. and if he isnt, then his mental capacity hasnt developed enough to comprehend the current state of affairs aflicting the world. there is no work, why? the banks wont turn loose of the money, why? the market is volitile, why? cause the rich people are manipulating the markets, why? to make money. so get a job flipping burgers...... fine, but then I will still be a financial burden to society, they will come for the unpaid cars, the house, the cards will not get paid, cause minimum wage for one isnt enough money. for another, all those help wanted signs out there doesnt really mean they are hiring, by law they are suppose to take applications and they do just in case they have an opening. its all show. day labor? good luck! I'm a union electrician, if there was non-union work I would work it in a heartbeat. but there isnt even that to fall back on. theres nothing out there. if there was work somewhere else, i have a travel trailer, am willing to travel, again there is nothing happening out there. and ill be damned if i pull that trailer 500 miles to flip hamberger patties for mc d's. if you want to fix the probllem then tell those governmment boys and bankers to turn loose of the money so the projects that was on the books to be built will be able to be built. untill then its a downward spiral of crap and we are all along for the ride.

Historically, many ads in newspapers were all for show - most positions already being filled internally or through employee recommendations...but they had to run the ad. I just had no idea that it had gone to the level in the video.

I've been out of work 17 months. I've submitted hundreds, if not thousands of applications. I've had 2 interviews - one I didn't have working knowledge of the computer program they were using and the other the guy changed his mind about hiring someone according to my recruiter (after he kept me for a freakin' 7 hour interview!). I've had a booming 2 weeks - recruiters have submitted my resume for 4 different jobs...but haven't hard back on any of them. I've even posted my job qualifications on here and got nothing from any of the people calling me a lazy loser.

So for the 3rd time on GLP - I'm happy to submit my resume to anyone who has a job opening. Just ask.

I was watching a rerun of Wolf Blitzer talking to Bill Clinton today and funny, he said the same thing about letting the money loose for the loans. Something about 1.2 or 1.3 trillion dollars is locked up in the banking system, above and beyond the amount needed to back the current loans. Clinton said it's just sitting there.

IMO the only ones that are 'losers' are the ones that won't work but not the unemployed willing.

You do know that there was a worldwide economic crisis, right?

As much as I am against free handouts, most of the unemployed are hardworking people who got layoff because the economy went south.

Also, the United States has been out of money since May, 2010, running on debt ever since.

Also. I had friend unemployed for almost a year straight, he looked but nothing around. He finally got a job again and now works 10 hour days 5 day week sometimes 6 days a week, any overtime..., he hasn't missed a beat in months.
you can go unemployed 'loser' to employed 'winner' in the blink of an eye.
In most cases the moniker doesn't fit.

OP is right. But then so are some of his detractors.

Pretty soon, very few of us will be 'useful' to the new paradigm. My inkling is that North America will be a land of warlords and serfs.

A lot of us will lose our current source of income. I'm sure I will. Any savings some of us have won't last forever. Then what? Absent a fast crash, and without income, people are going to be consumed entirely by 'paying the bills' - more so than today.


We will each have to adjust individually, or perish. Certainly it will take a great deal of luck, fortitude, strength, endurance, and skill to survive what's probably coming.

But like OP says, we have largely become a nation of whiners and crybabies. No personal responsibility anymore. Everyone has an excuse.

OP, the issue isn't necessarily job openings. what we have is a situation where very large portions of middle class jobs are being pulled out from under folks who bought the idea of beong able to build a life and incur debt believing that the jobs were secure.

these people can't pay their bills on minimum wage or even 2 MW jobs. that's the reality.

The middle class is being dismantled due to the greed of those who can do it. they are doing it. it's not a joke.

it's your money. UI you pay into. Jobs out there, takes a while to find, but persistence will reward.
